Herdade do Ananas

This hotel is amazing. The rooms are big and bright and beautifully decorated. Edgar who checked us in and ran breakfast every morning was so friendly and welcoming and professional. The hotel was located in a convenient location to drive around and explore the whole island.

We were charged twice on our credit card for 1 one room we booked. When we voiced our complaint, we were told we had booked 2 rooms and they would refund us but not for the entire amount. It cost us an extra $300. The exact thing happened to the other couple we were with. In addition, the chef was "sick" all 3 nights we booked so no dinner service. The hot tub was luke warm and the jets only run for 60 seconds before you have to restart them. We had a lovely stay here a few years ago, but something has changed and we will not be back.

I don’t rate many hotels 5. I prefer not to rate if it’s not that good but this is easy. We had stayed in the centre of Ponta Delgada on the way into the Azores to acclimatise, and after visiting most of the islands we decided to stay 10 minutes out of the town to be closer to travelling to the interior and coast of the island. Well we lucked out. This was just the ticket. Light and airy with a retro feel the newly renovated old homestead has views of the gardens and plantation greenhouses. Breakfast was in a lovely glass addition that looked onto citrus trees in the garden. Breaky was great with eggs, fresh breads and fruits and a range of juices and any type of coffee you would like. It’s a peaceful place and very suited to younger couples with a hire car who want to tour the island. We also had a big deck to sit out on. There is a restaurant on site too.

Fun and stylish first night on Sao Miguel. We landed late(r), but the staff was very kind to still check us in. The rooms are clean and calm and make you feel the history of the building. Shoutout to our host for the festive (and sumptuous) breakfast service and informative pineapple tour.

Everything about our stay here was fabulous from arrival to departure. It is clear the staff takes great pride in their work, Edgar is a true gem - he led us on a wonderful tour of the property where we learned so much. We stayed in a basic room in the main house and the room was huge, I was shocked at the size. The property is beautiful with all the different places to sit in the midst of fruit trees. Breakfast in the morning was easily 10/10, do yourself a favor and try the restaurant on site for dinner - we had two meals there and loved both of them. I have food allergies and they were so accommodating of them, even sending us with a bag of food to go for our early morning flight on the last day with gluten free bread for me. The property was a great base for us to go out and explore during the day and enjoy the hot tub at night. We will definitely return to this gem of a property!
