Hotel Do Colegio

We stayed here for 1 night and the hotel is in a brilliant location that is central and within walking distance of lots of restaurants. The staff were really personable and sweet throughout, and organised a taxi for us upon check out. The pool area is fab! A couple of points that seem to resonate with other guests. Our bedroom was so nicely decorated but the bathroom was dated and we didn’t like the shower curtain which frankly got in the way and not the most hygienic. We stayed in room 118 and the toilet was leaking at the base all over the floor which wasn’t pleasant. The hotel were responsive in trying to fix it. We missed not having tea / coffee making facilities in our room which is normal in all other places, and given what we paid for our room for the night, which wasn’t cheap, it felt very mean spirited to have to pay for 1.2 euros for a bottle of water in the fridge, although they did not charge for this. This should be complimentary. Come on guys! Our room faced on to the street and we were kept awake throughout the night by loud noises outside up to 3am. There is a municipal garbage facility outside, and various restaurants were dumping their glass and waste at all hours of the night. Some of them were not even respectful and were talking and shouting at the top of their voices which was really disrespectful. There is no air con in the room and as the weather was so hot we had to have the windows open. Perhaps restaurants should all agree not to dump their heavy waste until the morning and be quiet… We would recommend asking for a room that doesn’t face on to the street. For us, as we were only here for a night we let it go but if we had stayed for longer we would have picked this up with the management to have a room not facing the street. Breakfast was average and not aligned to accommodation of this standard, and with the benefit of hindsight, we would not opt for breakfast. There is a lovely bakery at the bottom of the street with really good breakfast options that we would expect to see in a hotel like this.

Located in the heart of Ponta Delgada…easy to walk to everything - the ocean, the parks, the mall, cafes, churches and pizza! Great breakfast, rooms with all you need, a pool,…helpful staff always willing to offer suggestions and alternatives. The hotel is quiet and super clean. This is the second time we have stayed here and will be back!

Very friendly hotel in a narrow street in the middle of town and convenient for bars and restaurants. The hotel is a bit tired in places. Our room was a good size and comfortable. Good breakfast.

Great location within walking distance to shops, restaurants, and the main gate of the city. We found the beds comfortable and slept well. The bathroom was strangely engineered. No fan but an openable window which was hard to reach. Door stops placed on floor where you can easily stub a toe. Getting in and out of the tub was a challenge. Fridge was more like an electric cooler and kept food cool but not cold. Breakfast buffet was free but the exact same foods everyday so we learned to stagger our selection to avoid the monotony. Breads and butter were very good, Portuguese coffee is delightful. There is cheese available at just about every meal on the Azores and Azorean cheese for breakfast is wonderful for a cheese lover. Hotel and wait staff were friendly. The restaurant goes Japanese/Portuguese fusion at night. We only ate there one night and only had appetizers because we were stuffed from lunch, but the food was good. In summary, if you want to be in an area where you can walk all over the city, this is a good option.
