Verde Mar & Spa

The room seem new with modern, clean touches. Very much appreciated the complimentary water and Nespresso. Breakfast was adequate. Restaurant was ok as we ate lunch and dinner once but could use more menu items. View to ocean was nice but hampered by the raw, weed field. A more manicured path to be beach would have made a big difference. Pool area was nice.

After staying at a great hotel on the other side of the island this was a huge letdown. The hallways and room have an unpleasant smell. The elevator is hot and would hate to get stuck in it. Housekeeping isn't very good. Make sure you put your do not disturb out. They knocked but didn't hear me and came in while I was in the bathroom. Never refilled teas that were used. Not enough parking spots. Wallpaper peeling. Breakfast almost inedible. Hotel not directly on beach. Wish we would have stayed at the other hotel. That was exceptional. This is not a 5 star hotel.

Great hotel that was central to traveling to either side of the island. Very good amenities including the pool, and inside bar seating area. Staff was super friendly and professional. Two negative comments though.....While I love the fact that the island is so eco friendly we felt that the air conditioning in the restaurant area was very very warm on some of the days we were there. Also, I realize that the hotel does not own the back area but when you pay extra for a sea view room I didnt appreciate sitting on our balcony with a beautiful ocean view but then had to look at the garbage strewn in the back area.

We visited São Miguel for the first time as part of a BA holiday and chose Verde Mar Hotel & Spa specifically for its indoor pool and wellness facilities — and it did not disappoint! From the moment we stepped through the door we felt genuinely welcome. The staff were warm, attentive and friendly throughout our entire stay. A special mention must go to Luis Silva at the front door — always there with a smile, proactive and a real credit to the hotel. Sadly we didn't catch the names of everyone who looked after us, but the whole team deserves recognition. Our sea view room was spacious, beautifully appointed and the views across the Atlantic were simply stunning — waking up to that every morning never got old! The gym and pool facilities are genuinely fantastic. Open from 6am to 10pm, the hours are incredibly generous and we made great use of them throughout the week. Given the Azores' famously changeable weather, having an indoor pool is not a luxury — it's a necessity — and on the days the weather turned, we were so glad we'd chosen this hotel for that reason. On the warmer days, the outdoor pool was equally lovely, and the beach directly across the road was great fun too, with plenty of waves and reassuringly lifeguarded. The location in Ribeira Grande is absolutely ideal for exploring the island. We found it easy to head east or west on day trips, and the town itself is charming. Just outside the hotel there's a well-stocked supermarket and a self-service laundry — both incredibly convenient for a week-long stay. The only area where we felt there was room for improvement was breakfast — and we noticed others have made similar comments here on TripAdvisor. The sausages felt a little manufactured and the baked beans were on the clumpy side. That said, the overall spread was decent and the setting was lovely. A small tweak to the hot food would make this a truly flawless experience. Overall, Verde Mar Hotel & Spa is a fantastic choice for anyone visiting São Miguel — stunning facilities, a brilliant location, and staff who genuinely care about your stay. We came as first-time visitors to the Azores and left already planning our return. Highly recommended!

Excellent hotel in a perfect spot overlooking the sea. The staff are exceptional, especially those at the front desk. The rooms were spotless and comfortable, and the bar/dining/outside pool/terrace areas were all spacious and well maintained. Breakfast buffet was very good and bar/restaurant menus perfectly adequate (amazing garlic prawns) although a wider choice would be preferable. Overall a really wonderful stay!
