Viva Tangerine by Wyndham

Sept 11 - 18, 2026.. We went with our cousin and her spouse. LOCATION- the location is in Cabarete DR. It is on the Atlantic side of the country. Cabarete is a very dirty town / city. All the stores, few restaurants, etc all look very run down, look very dirty. Not at all inviting for a tourist. There is a lot of garbage on the roadsides. Cars, trucks and lots of motorcycles drive very fast. There are no traffic lights and no designated crosswalks for pedestrians etc. The location of Cabarete is very over rated. I would not recommend this location to anyone. HOTEL LOCATION- the hotel is located sort of centrally in Cabarete, on the beachfront. The hotel has a very good beachfront view. ATMOSPHERE- the hotel atmosphere was ok. There are Viva Tangerine Club Members for this hotel and those guests are visibly treated very differently. We felt safe and comfortable. The vibe is very laid back. Take it easy. Go slow... ROOMS- we purchased a oceanview package. We were put in the worst 2 oceanview rooms in the whole resort. Our rooms 3318 & 3319 were above the buffet restaurant and bar and animation team area. Our rooms were both very loud, we could hear guests up until 4 a.m. Our 3318 balcony must have been close to a garbage compactor although we couldnt see it, we could smell it and it was disgusting garbage smell, very putrid sour disgusting odour. Our views 3318 and our cousins 3319 were very obstructed by palm trees.. Our view was not at all picturesque. Our A.C & room fridge worked very well, coffee maker worked well. Our fridge was not stocked with anything, although some guests mentioned theirs was stocked daily. The resort did send a fresh fruit platter and a 2% alcohol champagne to our room on the first day.. We requested a room change on Day 2 and received a room change at 3:30 pm on Day 2. We moved to rooms 2904 & 2905. These 2 rooms had amazing pool and oceanview from the balcony. The balcony had a couple nice chairs and a small table. Unfortunately our room 2904 did have some short comings. Our A.C. did not work well at all. We had 3 different technicians come at various times thru out the week to check the A.C. and they all said they fixed it and our room would be nice and cool within an hour. Our room was not cool the entire week. The entire week the outdoor temperatures were between 30 & 34 celscius . We were sleeping with no bed covers and still boiling hot all night every night. The hotel did not seem to care at all about this??? Our fridge worked well but was not once stocked with anything. We had brought refillable water bottles from home and we refilled them at the water filling stations that are all around the resort. The coffee maker worked well and the coffee was good - but no coffee mate or milk. So bring a small container from home and get it filled with milk from the buffet and leave it in your fridge for morning coffees. And be sure to run water thru your coffee maker before you use it because some guests said they had ants in theirs. Ours was fine but I still ran the water thru it anyways. ROOM BATHROOM / TOILET - the bathroom area was not the greatest. There are not enough towel racks to hang your wet bath towels on to dry out overnight. There is not shelf in the shower stall to place your shampoo etc on..??? The toilet in our room required us to hold both buttons down until the toilet water/waste went down otherwise the toilet would not work correctly.... RESTAURANTS- the food in the restaurants was all very good. The buffet restaurant was really good. The wine in the buffet was not good at all. Tasted very rancid.. The al la carte restaurants had excellent food and wine.. The wine came from Italy. This wine was only available in the al la carte restaurants. BAR- there was only 1 bar - the main bar had good drinks, very cold beer and good service. But - the wine was horrible. The wine at the bar also tasted very rancid. Not good white wine at all. So if you are wine refined - you can buy a couple bottles in the gift shop at the resort or go across the street from the resort to the grocery store and pay $$$ for a couple of bottles of white wine. BEACH- the beach looked good, but was not. The beach was very rough. Some regular guests told us that the beach is always very rough because it is the Atlantic ocean.. The sand is brown. NO white sand. There were lots of chairs . Lots of palm trees. The beach is very windy and this is why this destination is popular for kite sailing people. Tons of Kite flyers in the ocean. But the wind is very strong. ANIMATION TEAM- this team works long hours and puts forth a good effort. We did not attend the theatre night shows so not sure how good they were. IF the animation team plans on having a KARAOKE night -- skip it if you love to sing karaoke. I say this because this team takes over this event. Team member sang 11 songs and a few guests sang a total of 5 songs.. Dont waste your time filling in the little paper they hand out for you to put your name and the song you will sing - because you will never get called up to sing. This event is clearly for the animation team and a few guests that they appear to have become friends with.. The animation team girl with the long curly blonde hair took our little paper and we were never called up not once. And they dont care if you are disturbed by this... This KARAOKE night is for the animation team to sing their hearts out and to hell with the guests.. They do not care .. LANGUAGE - The staff at this hotel constantly asked us if we spoke French. And we repeatedly had to say 'no we speak English, we are from Canada and English is Canada's first language'. Its unfortunate the staff dont know too much about Canadians... RECOMMEND - I would recommend the hotel. I would also recommend to do your research, read tons of reviews. And understand that outside of the resort grounds is a very dirty, run down town that has no interest in making anything great of their area in order to attract tourism.. Do Not Drink the Water. Bottled water only...or filtered from the water stations...

I stayed at this resort from September 5-12 w/ my friends and we enjoyed ourselves to the fullest! The staff are amazing and this includes the animation team, dining room team, groundskeepers, security, guys who were working on the pool, etc. I must give a special THANK YOU to these individuals: The Best Nutella, Tasmania, BlackyBoy, Dana, Winnie, Paulina, Dj Lobo, Candi, Electric and the beautiful curly haired Italian (sorry I forgot your name😶). They all made sure the guests were always entertained and never bored. In the dining area I must say many many thanks to Javelina, Nehemia, Eduardo, Domingo and their supervisors Agustin and Stephanie! ..oops let me not forget Rosa in the green shirt! I stayed in room 4102 which had a nice view of the ocean and our only issue with the room was the shower as water can splash EVERYWHERE if you are not careful with the pressure. We also had an issue with the in room safe and thebair conditioner and when I contacted the front desk, they had the repair team sent out right away to fix them. The buffet & snack bars were ok as I always had something to eat that I liked but I must say that I have had better options at other resorts. The hotel is in a great location as you can walk to the Cabarete main strip in 15-20 minutes either by the beach or on the main road. If you want to be adventurous, you can take a motorcycle taxi for $1 or a regular taxi for $2. I have no complaints about this resort. My friends and I had an awesome time & the staff made my birthday even more special. Will I return to Viva Tangerine Wyndham- most definitely! P.s. the best beach vendor is a lady named Mama Banana- she wears a yellow hat, does not pressure you to buy anything and has the best prices. Some of the other vendors can be a bit aggressive but stand firm when you say NO and you will be left alone.
