Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine

We had a lovely stay at Bahia Principe Aquamarine in the Dominican Republic, and overall, it was a great holiday! ROOM. The room was relatively clean but in serious need of refurbishment. Rusty bathroom fittings, very dated electrical sockets and switches, and incredibly dusty wall artwork all need attention. The room was also very humid, leaving our clothes damp by the end of the week. The shower drainage was slow, causing water to build up. Overall, the room needs modernising. FOOD. The buffet had plenty of choice. One of the absolute highlights of the Bahia Principe complex is the number of à la carte restaurants available. Being able to book a different restaurant every evening and experience different cuisines is a fantastic bonus and really adds to the overall experience. BEACH. The beach is lovely, with a little bar and plenty of sun loungers available, so we never struggled to find a place to relax. Sargassum seaweed was a bit of an issue during our stay, but the staff work hard to keep the beach clean. Tractors and teams of workers were out every day collecting the seaweed. POOL AND ENTERTAINMENT. The entertainment was excellent, with something going on throughout the day and evening. There were daily pool activities, including bingo, aqua aerobics, Salsa dancing, pool kayaking and darts, so there was always something to get involved in if you wanted to. A special shout-out to Luis, who did a fantastic job engaging with guests and making the activities fun. In the evenings, there were shows, music and dancing, giving everyone plenty of opportunities to participate. Whether you wanted to join in with the activities or simply relax by the pool, there was a good balance of entertainment and downtime. Overall, we had a very enjoyable holiday.

The rooms was clean and cool. It was great value for money. The customer service was great from check in the room service and the dining area.

My first experience of the Dominican Republic but have to say that this hotel was somewhat of a disappointment. The room was a very good size but was somewhat dated. We had numerous issues with the room that we never reported as other people had reported issues but nothing was done. We struggled to get cold water from the shower so it was always scolding hot, when you did get cold water it could change to hot at any moment. The whirlpool bath didn't work as when turned in the plastic jet was shot out of its housing causing water to go everywhere. The cleaning standard is a little poor with hair being left in the bathroom for days on end. The pool area is lovely with plenty of Sunbeds but the hotel need to enforce the no private music being played, it ruins it for other guests. The day time entertainment is ok with an activity in the morning & afternoon but struggled to enjoy the entertainment team as a couple of the lads could be rude. The hotel needs to look at whether having young ladies twerking is really entertainment as it was a little crude. The food at the buffet is plentiful & somewhat varied with different themes every evening, it tasted ok & certainly did not go hungry. The evening entertainment was for some reason on a 1 week cycle instead of 2, so we ended up having to make our entertainment in week 2 as we had already seen all the shows. Overall the staff are friendly but the best service is reserved for those guests who throw around the dollars which is a little unfair. Would i return to the Dom Republic? Yes Would i stay at this hotel? Absolutely not, Not 5 stars in my opinion.

Definitely not a 5 star. 3 star maximum. On arrival dirty floor noted in closet, lock on patio door broken, tub not working with hair in tub, hair dryer not working with plug that looked like a fire hazard. Mini fridge was empty. Pool was great with good entertainment including at night shows. Lobby and pool bar staff efficient. Pool side service was hit or miss. Lunch food at the grill by pool was same food everyday no variety. Buffet was good with a lot of items. Went to the Mediterranean restaurant had a terrible experience. Noise outside of room by pool was loud during shows which is to be expected. Travelled to many several inclusive resorts however this one didn't make my favorite. Did try to make the best of it as I was in Dominican Republic with family.

My wife and I have been going to this resort since 2001 every year sometimes for a week sometimes two weeks and bringing lots people over the years. We were notified that Hyatt had purchased 49% of the Bahia chain and have gotten rid of all of their members. They have now lost quite a few people as VIP members should be valued at this resort. They are the ones that recommend other people a ton of money at this resort and because of fact that we can use the entire resort being VIP they figure it’s costing them a fortune when in fact it’s costing them next to nothing. It’s all over the Internet right now where VIP members points were all taken away and never transferred over to Hyatt. They will never getanother nickel from me.
