Staff use their hands (without gloves) to pick up guest's food to put it in their plates. I witnessed a server licking on his fingers with his tongue while serve a guest's food with his hands (no gloves). Food Safety rules are not being followed. The property is overrun with mosquitoes. The beach is unusable because it is overrun by weeds. The service is beyond horrible.

My family stayed at Grand Bávaro Princess three times (2017, 2018, and 2026), and I can honestly say this will probably be our last. The first two visits were great. The staff was friendly and attentive, and if you needed anything, you were encouraged to ask. This time? Not so much. The customer service has really gone downhill. When we arrived, we discovered that the in-room safe didn’t work. That evening, my husband told the front desk, and they handed him a card with a zero scribbled on it and told him to call that number. The problem? Our room phone wouldn’t dial out. We reported that, too, and were told someone would come fix it. Nobody ever showed up. Eventually, we just stopped asking. Neither the phone nor the safe was ever fixed. The room itself was pretty grim. There were huge gaps around the door that let in light and bugs, the bathroom smelled like sewage, hair was wrapped around the hair dryer cord, and there was hair stuck to the blankets. On the second-to-last night, the bathroom ceiling started leaking around a light fixture. Someone patched it, but the maid did a half-hearted job cleaning up the plaster afterward. My parents, who were staying in the same bungalow, had the same thing happen in their bathroom. Their repair didn’t hold, and it leaked twice more. The maid who was supposed to clean up after the repairs never showed up. Both rooms were in need of a serious deep cleaning and updating. There were mystery stains everywhere, and everything just felt grubby. This is not what I expect when paying for a resort vacation. The à la carte restaurant reservation system is basically a lottery. Maybe you’ll get lucky and get a table at the restaurant you want, but probably not. And trying to get help from guest services is frustrating because it often feels like they really don’t want to help you. The tram service was painfully slow in the mornings and evenings. On Friday night, the local visitors arrived in droves, and the pushing, shoving, elbowing, and line-cutting we witnessed while trying to get on the tram and into the buffet were unlike anything I’ve experienced at a resort. The whole evening was stressful and genuinely unpleasant. Not exactly what you come to the Caribbean for. Breakfast service was hit or miss, too. Some mornings, we’d wait around 10 minutes before anyone came to take our drink orders. There were some bright spots. The beach was beautiful, and the maintenance crew did a great job keeping the sargassum cleaned up. Clara at the lobby bar was delightful, Pedro at the beach bar was great, and Ismael and Don Juan at the pool bar were wonderful. The gentleman at the breakfast buffet omelette station deserves a shout-out, too. He remembered my husband’s order every morning and made sure people weren’t cutting in line. We also had a really nice massage at the spa. The afternoon pool games were fun, although I wish there had been more of them. The housekeeping and beverage staff did a good job working around our schedules, although it sometimes took a while to get towels in the evenings after we’d been at the beach. The grounds crew was always working to keep the property looking nice, and seeing the peacocks roaming around in the mornings was still one of my favorite things. But honestly, the good parts just weren’t enough to make up for everything else. That’s what makes this visit so disappointing. We came back because we had such great experiences in 2017 and 2018. I know this resort can do better because I’ve experienced it firsthand. This time, though, the rooms, the service, and the overall experience were a letdown. If you’re heading to Punta Cana and want a relaxing vacation without constantly dealing with inconveniences, I’d look elsewhere. It’s a shame, because we used to really enjoy this resort, but I don’t see us coming back.
