Hideaway at Royalton Punta Cana

Check in process is terrible and ladies checking people in were not welcoming. Our group of 24 was suppose to have a private check in but other travelers were taken ahead of us by slipping a butler money. Resort itself is clean with great food, drinks and beach. Our butlers Laura and Nielo were great. We had a fabulous time despite the terrible check in we had. Some had to go get their luggage because it wasn’t brought over. You shouldn’t have to ask for towels and washcloths constantly.

It was a nice resort. The rooms were in good shape, cleaned well (but at odd times), really close to the beach. Service was reasonable (staff is sometimes forgetful) but the Hideaway beach bar staff (Mario and Brendy) were exceptional - the highlight of the trip!!! If you go there treat them well and they will make your time on the beach excellent. Beach was nice (big bags on the beach were not an issue) and the Hideaway section always had empty chairs but never under shade (unless you got up really early). Food on the other hand left a LOT to be desired. I know some may say "what do you expect in the DR" but this was definitely way below DR standards. No seasoning, overcooked, little variety. Buffet was bad, steak house was terrible, Zen teppanyaki just OK, Jade not bad, Grazie was good. The food highlight was the burger trailer near the beach - excellent cheeseburgers - better than many places back home.

This was our second stay at Hideaway at Royalton Punta Cana, and once again it was exceptional. We originally booked one Diamond Club swim-up room and one Diamond Club Honeymoon Suite. Ideally, we wanted two swim-up rooms, but availability through TUI was limited. I contacted the hotel directly prior to our stay, and they arranged an upgrade for a reasonable fee, which meant we were able to have two swim-up rooms in the end. Before arriving, I reached out to our butler from last year, Victor Lopez. Victor ensured that our rooms were located exactly where we wanted and confirmed that the upgrade had been processed correctly. He even arranged his days off so that, after the first two days, he would be with us for the remainder of our stay—an excellent level of service. On arrival, we were welcomed with a drink in the main lobby and directed to the Hideaway reception. As returning guests, we were familiar with the layout, but a staff member still escorted us to the lounge. Check-in was smooth and relaxed—we handed over our passports and enjoyed a few drinks while everything was taken care of. The lounge itself could benefit from improved air conditioning and a larger space to bring it more in line with the Diamond Club lounge. A butler covered our first two days before Victor took over, and we were then shown to our rooms. Our room was exactly the same as last year, which was perfect for us. As returning guests, we didn’t need a full induction, so the butler focused on showing my parents around, as it was their first stay. The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained. Housekeeping was excellent, with a full clean during the day and a turndown service in the evening—it was always nice returning to a fresh bottle of water by the bed. Yenny, our cleaner, was outstanding—friendly, attentive, and clearly took pride in her work. When we experienced a pipe leak one day (completely outside the hotel’s control), she acted quickly to manage the situation, protecting our belongings and preventing any damage. I made sure to inform the General Manager, Felix, and it was great to hear that her efforts were recognised. It’s always positive to see staff appreciated in that way. The Hideaway pool area is a peaceful and relaxing space, and we never had any trouble finding sunbeds. Towels were available from 8am, and Wilson often had our beds prepared in advance, which was a great touch. Poolside service was excellent—thanks to Martha and Josmerlyn, we were never without a drink. The cocktails were fantastic, and it was refreshing to be at a hotel where premium spirits are genuinely used. The live musicians around the pool were fantastic and really added to the atmosphere, making the whole area feel even more relaxed and enjoyable. In the evenings, we spent a lot of time at the Hideaway bar, which was run by Rudi. He really made our nights—creating a fun, welcoming atmosphere and taking the time to remember all of our names, which made it feel much more personal. His mojitos were easily the best we had during the entire stay, and his energy and service added so much to our overall experience. For lunch, there was a menu available at the bar, and orders could be placed with Wilson and delivered directly to your sunbed—something we really appreciated, especially as the burger van tends to have long queues and could benefit from an additional unit. The food throughout the hotel was excellent. We used the buffet for breakfast, which offered a wide variety of high-quality options. For dinner, we ate à la carte every night. The Italian restaurant, Grazie, was a standout, with Francis consistently providing excellent service. We also dined at Under the Sea, the Mexican restaurant, and the steakhouse, all of which were very enjoyable—the Mexican in particular stood out. The sports bar was a great option for a more relaxed evening without needing to dress up. We did have a few issues on our first visit, but this is where the management truly stood out. The following day, Felix came to speak with me personally and ensured everything was resolved. What impressed me most was his willingness to listen and act—something that isn’t always the case at other resorts. He was consistently visible around the hotel, checking standards and greeting guests. When we returned to the sports bar later in the stay, the experience was exactly as it should have been. Diamond Club experience: Victor was exceptional throughout. He handled all our restaurant reservations flawlessly—we were always able to dine where we wanted, at the times we preferred. He would often meet us beforehand and walk us to the restaurant to ensure everything was in order. He was always nearby in the Hideaway area, and if not, a quick WhatsApp message brought him straight to us. During one of our excursions, we needed help arranging transport back to the resort, and Victor went above and beyond—providing advice and even translating what we needed to say. It’s that level of personal care that really sets the experience apart. Felix and Victor also arranged a special private meal on the beach for us, which was a real highlight of the trip. The setting was beautiful, and both of them ensured everything was perfect. Victor even stayed late to make sure it all ran smoothly, which was hugely appreciated. If you are staying at this resort, I would highly recommend requesting Victor Lopez as your butler. Overall, this was another fantastic stay and completely lived up to our expectations from last year. The service, food, and overall experience at Hideaway at Royalton Punta Cana were outstanding. The staff truly make this resort what it is, and their attention to detail sets it apart. We wouldn’t hesitate to return and are already considering booking again.

The Hideaway is adults only for its pool, 2 buildings and one restaurant. The first 2 days the pool was clear and fine, then for the following 5 days it was cloudy and extremely warm. Our group stopped using it. We watched one man smoke in the pool numerous times and drop his ashes in there. The rooms were very damp but we lucked out and were given a dehumidifier. It did help. When the room was cleaned there was more hair on the floor after then before it was cleaned. One day I through a Q-tip in the garbage can and after the room was cleaned, there was the Q-tip on the floor by the shower! The food was average at best. The Teppanyaki was the best restaurant. Dorado was also good, but don't go to the Mexican restaurant at Splash. There were 7 of us in our group and 5 of 7 become very ill by the 3rd day and on. This was our 5th vacation together to an adults only resort and this was by far our worst trip. The hotel was not 5 star and did not compare to the other resorts we have been to. I could go on but there is no point. This is not an adults only resort.
