Hideaway at Royalton Punta Cana

I will start my review by stating that the staff in the hotel, from the gardeners, maids, barstaff and others gave us a 5* service but, and its a big BUT, that's where the 5* ended. We booked this hotel because we thought it was a small 130 room 5* adult only hotel. It is Not a small adult only hotel, it is a massive complex where little people holiday too. Yes, we went to have breakfast on the first day and there were lots of children eating as well. So much for adult only. We also booked this hotel because it had 2 lifts, perfect for anyone with a disability and we had a sea view. Only thing is, the two lifts are only in the main building and not the Hideaway so we lost our sea view and gained a patio looking across a small garden onto more of the hotel...I believe there were children in the block we faced. Our new room was ground floor and smelled of damp for the first few days. If you like your food hot only eat what you see them cook and put on your plate, everything else is tepid or cold. This was in the main buffet area as well as the restaurants on site. The steak restaurant is fantastic as you get perfectly cooked meat to your taste that is hot...but you vegetables arrive in cast iron dishes cold, which was a shame because their mash and creamed spinach are very tasty cold, but would be even more so hot. The Dorada was exclusively Hideaway adult, serving a sit down 3 course breakfast, lunch and evening meal, only except when they closed it to serve BBQ meals to new clients which meant one day a week we had to either book another restaurant or use the main buffet which did have a dedicated Hideaway area, though it was small so on a few occasions we sat with families. Believe me, I love families that holiday together, we did that throughout our children's childhood and still holiday with them and our grandchildren, but when we book adult only that is what we want. It took 3 days to get me a seat for in the shower, oh, talking about the shower it was lovely if you are normal size. If however you are around the 20+ stone size I don't think you would fit in. I'm fairly certain some of the guests used the pool as a bath because they wouldn't even fir in the shower sideways as they were very narrow. We love the Dominican Republic, this was our 5th visit and we have never been so disappointed in a hotel there before. It was so disappointing that our travel agent phoned us up and asked if we wanted to move to a different hotel! We only stayed because we had met some lovely people and didn't want to move for just one week. Having said that, we also met some absolutely disgraceful people, one couple giving a disgraceful x rated display by the pool as they were so utterly drunk as a skunk and had to be escorted to their room. I got their action on camera but tjis site doesn't appear to accept clips of film. It's sad that any hotel can't guarantee they won't get zero star guests. In a nutshell, if you want a 5 star hotel that is adult only DON'T book this one. Ignore all the advert says about how many restaurants they have if you want adult only because lots of those restaurants are in the Splash park area and a buggy ride away and full of children. We will never go to this hotel again as it is not up to the 5* standard of every other hotel we have stayed in in Punta Cana. Next time we will return to one of the Rui adult only, they truly are 5*

Great staff Darlyn and Franklin took care of us from check in to check out. We only had a short stay but were impressed with food, top shelf drinks included. Room and bed was good, pool area was nice, beach for hideaway was roped off, beach chairs comfortable, price bar, beach shower close. Recommend this resort would come back.

The hideaway is the standout place here. Juan, JP, yosmerlyn are all amazing, make sure to spend your time with them!!

Jean Paul aka JP Papa is the one! Keeping everyone engaged around the hideaway pool. Juan amazing bar service and always on hand to keep you hydrated. Leny keep a good services as my butler. Also shout out to Yosmerlin around the pool!
