Lopesan Costa Bavaro Resort Spa & Casino

I’ve worked in hospitality for over a decade, and I have never had this much difficulty confirming a reservation. I called for a week straight on behalf of a client and was hung up on 17 times. Had the reservation not been non-refundable, I would have cancelled and booked elsewhere. As soon as staff answered and heard me speaking English, they ended the call. On the one occasion someone stayed on the line, it was clear they had limited English. I was transferred from department to department, with each one passing the problem along, and was finally told to email to confirm the reservation. No one ever replied. In the end, I was only able to confirm the booking by having a Spanish-speaking colleague call on my behalf. There appears to be no support whatsoever for non-Spanish-speaking guests.

We visited Lopesan for our honeymoon ✨️ and enjoyed our stay overall! We booked the Unique package, which gave us access to additional pool areas and adults-only options. We were welcomed with champagne at check-in and received a special gift upon arrival, as well as another thoughtful gift midway through our stay. These extra touches made our honeymoon feel special and memorable. Jeimy was very helpful during check-in and connected us with our butler, Victor, who was outstanding! He made sure all our dinner reservations and spa appointments were scheduled upon arrival. He was always available whenever we needed anything and regularly checked in to see how our stay was going. His attentiveness and excellent service really stood out and helped make our honeymoon special. We tried the regular buffet but much preferred the Unique buffet for both breakfast and lunch. Our room was very clean and comfortable, and we appreciated having a nice space to relax. However, there were a few areas that could use improvement. At times, the air conditioning didn't cool the room as much as we would have liked. The water was also shut off for maintenance without prior notice, which was inconvenient. Additionally, some TV channels did not come in clearly. The bathroom itself was attractive, but the layout lacked privacy. The main entrance door opens directly into the bathroom area, and the toilet is not enclosed behind a separate door or within a private space. This is worth considering for couples sharing a room. Service from the restaurant, bar, and spa staff was inconsistent. Some team members were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, while others seemed less engaged. Our first spa experience, which included massages, was very good. The staff was kind and professional, took the time to ask about our preferred pressure, and focused on our individual areas of tension and discomfort. Unfortunately, our hydrotherapy experience was quite different. We were not greeted or given an explanation of the process, and no one checked in with us during the experience. A little more attentiveness and guidance would have made a big difference. Overall, we appreciated the Unique experience, the thoughtful honeymoon gifts, and especially the exceptional service from Victor. The champagne welcome, gifts, clean and comfortable room, and additional amenities helped make our stay memorable.

I have been putting off this review until I recently came back from Mexico to reflect .We have been to this hotel 3 times in 2 years because it was great . There’s no getting away from the beauty and wow factor of the decor , beach and grounds . We always upgrade to unique which had its benefits until our last experience . Unique is not policed at all apart from the breakfast area . Pools , bars , beach area etc are not supervised and anyone can use them , this defeats the objective of spending an extra thousand pound .lifeguards were taking cash bribes by customers to reserve rows of sunbeds on the main pool .The real problem is the staff , most of them do not want to be there , yes there are some that are wonderful such as Domingo , claribel and Annabelle on la Perla . Main lobby bar and the valley are a serious problem . Over the fisrt week or so I found it difficult to get served and thought it was just the way it was . Into the second week we saw a pattern emerging and guests started to talk and point things out about my ethnicity . I asked the bartender why he doesn’t want to serve me and got ignored . 20 minutes later he said “ what do you want “ I replied I’ll go to a different bar . Again I reported it to my butler ( amazing victor ) . He said he’ll look into it . The next night the aforementioned bar tender was on the outside bar but spent most of the evening walking around the back of my wife and I staring at us in a menacing manner . I approached the bar to be met with much of the same . I asked to speak to the manager , those are the ones in green shirts , I don’t speak Spanish but certainly know the swear words . He was foul and abusive . Once again I insisted I speak to a senior manager who are extremely difficult to get hold of , Victor said he would try . When I produced this picture of the bar manger using gang signs , swearing and abusing me I was promptly seen by someone of authority. We were leaving over the next few days so we stayed away from the front of the hotel as my wife didn’t feel safe . The hotel is stunning unfortunately you cannot have style over substance. The few great staff are overshadowed by the masses of miserable rude ones .

My husband and I spent 10 beautiful days at Unique Lopesan Swim up Suite. What really made our stay so perfect was our wonderful butler Oliver De La Cruz. We've had many butlers in all our trips, but he was above and beyond. I would highly recommend asking for Oliver for your butler. Victor & Lucille Nuorimo
