MELIÁ PUNTA CANA BEACH – ADULTS ONLY NEVER AGAIN! A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT The natural surroundings are absolutely beautiful. The beach, tropical gardens and scenery are stunning, but unfortunately, that is where the positive experience ends. We stayed at Meliá Punta Cana Beach – Adults Only, and I can honestly say that this was one of the most disappointing holiday experiences we have ever had. The staff, food, drinks, service and cleanliness were all extremely poor. I would not recommend this resort to anyone. ROOM AND CLEANLINESS We found cockroaches in our room! The towels were extremely rough and uncomfortable. The shower door had a handle only on the outside, meaning that once inside, you practically had to risk breaking your fingernails just to open it and get out. The drawers were in poor condition, some would not close properly, and others were missing handles, making them difficult to open. The minibar was not replenished daily as promised. Even the welcome experience was disappointing. Our friends, who travelled with us and paid exactly the same amount, found a bottle of wine and a plate of pastries waiting in their room upon arrival. We received absolutely nothing. It is not about the value of the gift; it is about the gesture and treating guests equally. FOOD AND DRINKS The food was extremely disappointing. After eating at the resort, I suffered from vomiting and diarrhoea for two days. Flies were everywhere, as if they owned the place, including around the food. This raised serious concerns about hygiene. The food selection was very poor, with little variety and absolutely no attention to presentation or atmosphere. As for the drinks, the wine, beer and Prosecco were practically undrinkable. The quality was terrible. SERVICE AND STAFF Customer service was practically non-existent. I particularly want to mention the staff at Balance. In my opinion, they urgently need proper customer service training. Their attitude and speed of service were unacceptable. On one occasion, I ordered two coffees and then asked for another one. The waitress looked surprised and actually asked, "Another one?" She then walked away to serve another customer, leaving me waiting. The coffees were served in cardboard cups. Where were the proper coffee cups? This is supposed to be an adults-only resort, not a takeaway coffee shop! On another occasion, after the rain had soaked my beach towel, I went to exchange it and was told there were no clean towels available. THE RESORT ATMOSPHERE AND TRANSPORT There was absolutely no music or atmosphere around the resort. It felt lifeless. Breakfast and lunch were served at the beach area, but dinner was served at the lobby. Why? It would be far more convenient to have dinner in the same area, allowing guests to enjoy the lobby afterwards if they wished. Instead, guests were forced to depend on the resort's buggy transport. We regularly had to wait up to 30 minutes in the evening. Sometimes the buggies simply did not arrive; other times they arrived completely full. We were at the end of the route, but the drivers would pick up additional passengers along the way. If only two or three spaces were left, everyone else had to wait for another buggy. How long? Nobody knew! Some guests simply gave up and walked. This is not acceptable, especially when people are dressed for dinner and should not have to walk long distances just to get something to eat. The lobby sofas were another disappointment. They were extremely uncomfortable and poorly designed. Wearing a skirt and sitting on them was practically impossible without exposing yourself. My suggestion? The management should try sitting on those sofas themselves and see how comfortable they are! SAFETY AROUND THE POOLS The decorative water features and pools look beautiful, but there is a serious lack of clear separation between walking areas and water. My friend actually walked straight into one of the water features wearing his trainers! Some kind of barrier, rope, chain, lighting or other visible marking is needed to make it clear where the water begins and ends. This is a safety issue, not just an aesthetic one. And just when I thought I could finally relax, a snake came towards me from the swimming pool area. Certainly not the kind of surprise you expect on a relaxing holiday! SAONA ISLAND EXCURSION We also booked an excursion to Saona Island. The island itself is beautiful, but unfortunately, the organisation and experience were another disappointment. We had seen beautiful, long stretches of beach, but the beach where we were taken had only a few metres of shallow water suitable for entering the sea. Beyond that, it became very steep, making it almost impossible to enjoy swimming. The food was absolutely terrible, both in terms of quality and taste. The tables and chairs were broken, and the overall area was extremely dirty. The boat was quite large, and we expected some entertainment, music, dancing and a proper holiday atmosphere. Water was provided, but only in paper cups! How is it possible to organise an excursion without providing individual bottles of water? Guests should be able to drink water hygienically and safely, especially in such a hot climate. MY FINAL VERDICT I could probably list even more problems, but I think I have made my point. This resort has extraordinary natural beauty, but the management and services do not come anywhere close to matching it. A beautiful location cannot compensate for poor hygiene, unacceptable food quality, terrible drinks, unprofessional staff, uncomfortable facilities and a complete lack of attention to guests. We paid for a holiday, relaxation and a quality adults-only experience. Unfortunately, we received disappointment after disappointment. NEVER AGAIN! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND MELIÁ PUNTA CANA BEACH – ADULTS ONLY TO ANYONE. It is such a shame that a place blessed with such extraordinary natural beauty fails so badly when it comes to hospitality and guest experience. Nature deserves five stars. The resort experience deserves zero.

The spa was the only reason they didn’t get a 10. They talked me in to sitting through a presentation and you get are supposed to get free spa treatment. Then they didn’t give me the spa treatment after a hour of trying to explain to the spa.
