Sunscape Dominicus La Romana

My wife and I, along with another couple, stayed at this hotel for six days. Overall, great service, good experience and value for what we have paid, but with some caveats that we would like to point out. Service/Staff: We were quite impressed by the good service and the great attitude of all staff, which we were not expecting based on previous experiences in DR. We also paid the extra “Sunclub” service which was well worth it to avoid the crowds at the beach, buffet and coffee lounge as this service includes dedicated locations for members. A suggestion for fellow travelers: please remember to tip the staff! We were shocked by how little guests were tipping employees who were doing great work! Beach: The beach and water were beautiful, but during our first two days, we encountered unexpected sargassum. Apparently, this is very uncommon for this beach and was caused by a major storm in the middle of the Atlantic. The shallow water area was too narrow, making it feel very crowded if you are not comfortable swimming/floating in deeper water. Additionally, there are rocks and coral when entering the ocean, which can be quite annoying at times. However, the worst part was a sewage-smelling drain pipe leading directly onto the beach. We were told it was for wastewater from the swimming pool (see attached pictures) which was very concerning. Loungers and Towels: Sunbeds with good location run out quite fast, so people are picking them up as early as 6 am, which is very annoying. Towels are only provided after 7 am (General – Grey color) or 8 am (Sunclub – Brown color). The first day we were quite lost looking across the hotel and nobody provided us with information as beach towels are not left in your room. Therefore, it would be a nice touch if—especially for late arrivals—they at least provided the initial beach towels by leaving them in the room. Food, Drinks and Restaurants: We have found a good selection and quality of meals and drinks. However, buffets are hunger games, and too many people use same serving spoons. You are required to make your own coffee and expect a long line-up. We were so grateful for the Sunscape package, we decided not to come back to buffet and just head straight into the reserved “Tierra” restaurant for a la carte options. Rooms: They are clean but beaten up and dark. The bathrooms are too small, and there is even a doorstop in the middle of the floor that you could trip over. The rooms and parts of the hotel in general look somewhat outdated. Surprisingly, the rooms are well-insulated. Amenities: The hotel was at 70% capacity but everywhere felt crowded. I think part of the problem is that no bracelets are provided for guests, and excluding the Sunscape locations, there is easy access from the public beach, and nobody checks your room number of similar. Friday and Saturday were absolutely filled with locals making the buffets, bars, pool, and beach look packed with people. Gardens were stunning and good care of the exteriors Last but definitely not least, we are cat lovers and were very happy to see some feral colonies around interacting with guests. Please treat them respectfully since they are in the habitat where they were forced to born and take good care of them. The owner of this hotel has an stunning mansion next door, so I am sure there are enough financial resources to invest in spaying, neutering, and vaccination campaigns, since, unfortunately, cats of all ages are seen—even kittens only weeks old, and it is evident that some of them clearly require basic veterinary attention. Special thanks to: Oliver and Christian (bellboy), Williams and Yamilka (Lounge coffee), Diosiris (Concierge), Marleny and Carmen (Waitress at Tierra), Franklin (Cheff), Franyellis and Onelis (Buffet), Luis (beach bar), Ana Maria (Maid), Mercedes and Minerva (Massages), and in general all the amazing Staff without any exception!

I had an exceptional Day Pass experience at this property. The hotel provides all the necessary amenities to completely unwind and escape the daily routine. The culinary offerings and beverages were excellent; the water slides were highly enjoyable, and the cocktails at the pool bar were outstanding. Furthermore, the poolside taco station was an excellent addition, offering delicious food and a great variety of options. The entertainment team performed exceptionally well, engaging guests with bachata dancing and a wonderful selection of activities. Upon arrival, the reception staff provided a warm and professional welcome, and the entire team treated us with the utmost respect. I highly recommend visiting the beach after 5:00 PM to appreciate the spectacular sunset.

We had an incredible experience at Sunscape Dominicus! The value for money is unbeatable, and the resort truly felt like paradise. The rooms, service, and especially the staff were fantastic. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and always willing to help. The food was also very good, but what really stood out for us was the volleyball 🏐 and, of course, the incredible beach 🏖️. The beach is absolutely beautiful! If I had to mention one thing that could be improved, it would be the quality and variety of the alcohol. That said, it was a minor issue compared to everything else the resort offers. I would definitely come back! We had an amazing vacation and truly felt like we were in paradise. Highly recommended and an easy 5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The hotel in general was nothing special. The grounds and the beach were beautiful. Food was not even a little bit catered for english tourists. I picked up a bacterial bug. Vomiting. The worst of the holiday were the staff. Very little English, if any and i felt as if we were not liked very much by the dominicans. I feel bad saying this but its true.

The photo of the room on the Tui app was not a true representation of the room we got. It had a painted cement slap as a dressing table. The bathroom was grubby and had wallpaper up in the shower. I think that was to hide more issues, but only becauseit was odd choice in a shower!. There was parts of the pool with tiles missing, and wasnt cleaned sufficiently, plenty of guys with nets but not really being consistent. One day it had so much hair and small debris in it, we didnt want to get in.! The buffet was repetitive and the food was luke warm, food has to be held to 67/69 in the uk, this is food hygiene regs. The hotel did not seem to recognize the risk? was concerning and I was choosing food from the griddle or cold. Staff were really friendly and cheery. The hotel had other restaurants you could book in via hotel app, we found Mario's to be the better one and the Asian one was so popular we failed to get a reservation. We wouldn't return to this hotel but we dont think we would use Tui either for how the photos misled us on the quality of hotel. The photos glorified the hotel, albeit you could see they are adding new bit. One other thing was during our stay the netted off the block and boarded up the stairs while they started to renovate ground floir rooms. They expected us to access our room via a dim lit fire escape. We did request another room and that was a little better furnished. I was a little annoyed that they had even put us in this block and as we moved there was new people being checked into that block. They really did lack some customer service considerations there.
