My wife and I, along with another couple, stayed at this hotel for six days. Overall, great service, good experience and value for what we have paid, but with some caveats that we would like to point out. Service/Staff: We were quite impressed by the good service and the great attitude of all staff, which we were not expecting based on previous experiences in DR. We also paid the extra “Sunclub” service which was well worth it to avoid the crowds at the beach, buffet and coffee lounge as this service includes dedicated locations for members. A suggestion for fellow travelers: please remember to tip the staff! We were shocked by how little guests were tipping employees who were doing great work! Beach: The beach and water were beautiful, but during our first two days, we encountered unexpected sargassum. Apparently, this is very uncommon for this beach and was caused by a major storm in the middle of the Atlantic. The shallow water area was too narrow, making it feel very crowded if you are not comfortable swimming/floating in deeper water. Additionally, there are rocks and coral when entering the ocean, which can be quite annoying at times. However, the worst part was a sewage-smelling drain pipe leading directly onto the beach. We were told it was for wastewater from the swimming pool (see attached pictures) which was very concerning. Loungers and Towels: Sunbeds with good location run out quite fast, so people are picking them up as early as 6 am, which is very annoying. Towels are only provided after 7 am (General – Grey color) or 8 am (Sunclub – Brown color). The first day we were quite lost looking across the hotel and nobody provided us with information as beach towels are not left in your room. Therefore, it would be a nice touch if—especially for late arrivals—they at least provided the initial beach towels by leaving them in the room. Food, Drinks and Restaurants: We have found a good selection and quality of meals and drinks. However, buffets are hunger games, and too many people use same serving spoons. You are required to make your own coffee and expect a long line-up. We were so grateful for the Sunscape package, we decided not to come back to buffet and just head straight into the reserved “Tierra” restaurant for a la carte options. Rooms: They are clean but beaten up and dark. The bathrooms are too small, and there is even a doorstop in the middle of the floor that you could trip over. The rooms and parts of the hotel in general look somewhat outdated. Surprisingly, the rooms are well-insulated. Amenities: The hotel was at 70% capacity but everywhere felt crowded. I think part of the problem is that no bracelets are provided for guests, and excluding the Sunscape locations, there is easy access from the public beach, and nobody checks your room number of similar. Friday and Saturday were absolutely filled with locals making the buffets, bars, pool, and beach look packed with people. Gardens were stunning and good care of the exteriors Last but definitely not least, we are cat lovers and were very happy to see some feral colonies around interacting with guests. Please treat them respectfully since they are in the habitat where they were forced to born and take good care of them. The owner of this hotel has an stunning mansion next door, so I am sure there are enough financial resources to invest in spaying, neutering, and vaccination campaigns, since, unfortunately, cats of all ages are seen—even kittens only weeks old, and it is evident that some of them clearly require basic veterinary attention. Special thanks to: Oliver and Christian (bellboy), Williams and Yamilka (Lounge coffee), Diosiris (Concierge), Marleny and Carmen (Waitress at Tierra), Franklin (Cheff), Franyellis and Onelis (Buffet), Luis (beach bar), Ana Maria (Maid), Mercedes and Minerva (Massages), and in general all the amazing Staff without any exception!
I enjoyed my stay at this resort. The staff were amazing especially Manuel C at the Snack bar (beach side close to Windows buffet). He was very friendly, funny and helpful. Angel at the lobby bar, Julia and Onry in Windows buffet and Nataly M (hostess at Windows buffet). I stayed in room 14340 and it was in a good location, great size and always clean. The animation staff always kept the guests entertained and there was always something to do. The beach was beautiful and water was lovely just be careful as there are rocks here and there. The resort is clean and the staff work hard to maintain the grounds. The only negative thing about this resort is that guests get up early and lay claim to the beach chairs :(
as expected for a resort, sea water fantastic, staff very nice , overall i would recommend to family and friends, liked the area alot
Unfortunately, our stay at Sunscape Dominicus La Romana was extremely disappointing. From the moment we arrived, we experienced one problem after another. Our room had a connecting door to a very noisy room with several children, and we could hear almost everything. We asked to change rooms but were told nothing else was available. The toilet and room telephone were both not working when we arrived. I reported both problems to the front desk more than once. Maintenance never came to repair the toilet, and eventually I had to ask a housekeeping employee to help us. The telephone was never repaired during our entire stay. This became especially frustrating because my wife became sick and could not leave the room. We ordered room service twice on different days and neither order ever arrived. On one occasion, after waiting around two hours, I personally went to the front desk. They told me they would take care of it, but the food still never arrived. We also noticed that after my wife used the swimming pool, the ends of a significant amount of her hair turned green. In addition, after only a small amount of alcohol, we both experienced unusually strong headaches and dizziness, which raised concerns for us about the drinks that were served. Another serious issue was that two jackets that we believe were with our belongings upon arrival could not be located afterward. The hotel told us their security team reviewed the cameras and did not see the jackets entering the property, but they would not provide any image or evidence because of privacy policies. Overall, what disappointed us most was not just that problems happened, but that we repeatedly reported them and very little was actually resolved. For an all-inclusive resort at this price level, we expected significantly better service, communication, maintenance, and follow-up. Sadly, based on our experience, I cannot recommend this hotel.
The resort is nice, the food was okay but there were several issues with the room (no electricity in the sockets, periods with no internet coverage, not enough towels delivered, cockroach found, medicine moved from the refrigerator to the freezer,… ). I would rate my stay 3 stars, however I am only giving the additional one is to Brayan from the newblue team who was doing as much as he could to make things work for us. Gracias!
