Riu San Francisco

Definitely a good hotel to visit in the winter if you aren’t after nightlife (and we aren’t). Some noise from other rooms but not much; otherwise outside noise in wintertime seems minimal because so much is closed: even the street sellers it seems! Occasional raised voices outside during the night. Sea view rooms are great and look out over the whole bay. Ours was generously sized. Fridge in room. Use of safe costs extra. Bathrooms (built into the room not adjoining) don’t offer much privacy however! Again a winter bonus probably that on-street parking nearby was easy enough. Advised to park along to the right of the hotel entrance and had little trouble doing so. Reception staff great, also the guy in charge of the restaurant team (and some team members) and behind the bar - all so friendly and helpful - thank you. Drinks cost extra but buffet is extensive including paella. Palma itself is a really lovely city to visit and great for shopping as well as lots of interesting buildings including the cathedral. The city centre is about a 15-20 minute drive away. Bus stop not far from the hotel. With a car, Valdemossa, Soller, Friday market and parish church at Luc Major all good places to enjoy. The hotel can’t control the weather but we enjoyed daily sunshine and sat on our balcony for the glorious sunset out on the bay.

Many good aspects : very friendly staff, certainly at reception. Clean and nice rooms. Excellent matrasses & beds. Adults only. Excellent food. Less good : swimming pool is not that big (but this is so in 90% of all hotel at Playa de palma given the expensive value of each square meter there). Strongly advise to have a room with seaview: you enjoy longer the sun, and less noise of the very busy streets at the left and right of the hotel. It's EUR 100 extra but worth its money. negative : at the back ( in fact the the entrance) begins a very noisy street with "biergarten", "bratwurst" etc, just like in München. 80% of the vistors are young Germans (often football teams and the like). Inside the hotel or at the swimming pool one does't hear that noise.

this is the worst hotel I’ve ever been to we arrived. There was nowhere to park to check in extremely dangerous hotel. We couldn’t even enter the hotel without being attacked by a swarm of vendors selling cheap stuff. I walked up to the front desk, told him about the dangerous situation. They came back outside to escort us into the hotel. They told us they could only say that we would be safe within the property, but once we walked off, they could not say we would be safe as I was standing in the lobby. The police came to remove the vendors. They came back within a minute the police officers are standing in front of the building, this is a huge security issue. There was also a half dozen people laying on the couch in front of the check-in counter, drunk the hotel staff did nothing allowed them to stay there drunk. What kind of establishment is this? I tried to cancel. Told them that we could simply not stay there as two females we were so afraid for our safety they said they could not cancel or do anything about it at the time. Expedia tried to contact them and advocate for me Hotel RIU refused to give a refund even though their own staff acknowledge that security and safety issues for us and had to escort us onto their property. I have never ever experienced this in any place I’ve ever stayed. Can you imagine how that feels I to spend money to move to another property that we could feel safe at. This is the worst experience ever the worst property ever who refused to refund my money. I would not at all recommend this consumers beware of the safety concerns and issues. Consumers be aware that there’s police standing outside the property do you want to stay in a place like that where your life is in danger and you’re paying for your experience?

Hotel was very poor for a RIU. Usually a high standard. Definitely wouldn't recommend. Its a party resort. Unfortunately we were looking for a relaxing holiday. Very little to do. Won't be returning. Clubs and bars dont seem to close and Unfortunately RIU Hotel was in the centre of the party zone.

Check in was very difficult, and they will charge you extra for children. Trying to find a spot to park to check in took a bit and required me to drive around a couple of times till one opened up. The line to check in was over 30 minutes. When I checked in they asked how many guests and then I was told they charge extra for children, approximately $75 extra plus the parking and resort fees (both of which I expected) it was approximately $150 more than the published price. Again I was expecting the parking and resort fees but not charging extra for children. This is the first time visiting a riu and for the time being this will be the last. Going to stick to hotels that charge for the room and not per person. I understand if this was an all inclusive but this is just a regular hotel in a tourist trap. Also bring your sandals, the bathrooms are nasty.
