Viva Eden Lago

Great location near to the beach and beautiful lake scenery. Buses are easy to get outside the hotel to Alcudia old town and Alcudia port. Lovely restaurants nearby. Hotel staff really helpful and friendly. Rooms are great, modern, spotless and amazing shower. There is a kettle, toaster, fridge and coffee maker in the room but you do need to bring your own tea bags. Breakfast is fabulous, everything you could ask for and my son loved the children’s pool. Highly recommend.

Overall, this has been a very mixed experience. There are some genuinely good things about this hotel, but also some disappointing shortcomings that, in our opinion, prevent it from deserving a four-star rating. Let's start with the positives - Firstly, the mosquitoes. The hotel is right by the lake, so mosquitoes are to be expected, particularly at this time of year. Other than using repellent, there isn't much the hotel can do about this, so I am not going to hold that against them. The location itself is absolutely fine. There is a bus stop across the main road for easy access to Alcudia. Alternatively, take a stroll along the lake for around 30 minutes and you will reach the main shops, restaurants and bars. Turn right when leaving the hotel and there are plenty more shops, bars and restaurants within around a five-minute walk. No complaints about the location from us. The hotel is clean enough overall, and we found the room sizes very good. We stayed in an apartment with a separate bedroom, and the kids slept on a comfortable sofa bed in the lounge. There are 2 pools. The smaller pool in the main section was fine temperature wise, while the larger pool had a big dome feature that the kids enjoyed sliding down, along with a couple of smaller slides at the back. Unfortunately, the larger pool was absolutely freezing! We visited in October, so I appreciate that pool temperatures can be an issue at this time of year, but our kids normally love getting in the pool and even they found it too cold to stay in for any length of time. There were plenty of sunbeds available during our stay, which was another positive. Both breakfast and evening meals were fantastic, with plenty of choice to suit everyone. The themed evenings were a particularly nice touch, with something different to look forward to each night. We are in the restaurant for lunch once during our stay and this was nice too. The hotel entertainment was good as well, and some of the acts were better than entertainment we have experienced at other hotels. The staff were very friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. This applied to reception, the restaurant, the Sports Bar and the staff working around the pool area. They were approachable and helpful, and deserve credit for that. Unfortunately, this is where the positives start to give way to some fairly significant negatives. Although the hotel was clean enough in general, it felt very tired and in need of some attention. Our room had marks, stains and smears on the curtains, walls, in the corners of the rooms and even on the light shades. The corridors on all floors looked tired, while the lift doors were stained and the lift interiors looked poorly maintained. The lift floors were cracked, with visible gaps in the flooring. I cannot comment on the actual safety of the lifts, but their condition certainly did not inspire confidence. For a hotel advertising itself as four-star, I would expect much better standards of maintenance. Another disappointment was that rooms are not cleaned every day. There is a rota showing which days the housekeeping staff have off, meaning that during a seven-night stay, the room would only be cleaned five times. Of course, staff deserve their days off, and I have absolutely no issue with that. However, from a guest's perspective, I have never experienced this arrangement in a hotel before. If daily housekeeping is the intended standard, staffing and scheduling should be organised to accommodate it. The choice of drinks was reasonable, but we found ourselves getting bored with the selection quite quickly. Perhaps this was partly because the Sports Bar is the hotel's only main bar. We actually went out one evening simply for a change of scenery, and it was nice to enjoy a drink somewhere different. The Sports Bar also serves food, and this brings me to another frustration. The menu gives the impression that the food is included for all-inclusive guests. However, when we tried to book a table, we were told that we needed to be staying for a minimum of six nights to eat there. We were staying for four nights, so we were unable to use this facility. We could not find this restriction mentioned on the hotel's website or anywhere obvious within the hotel. If you are advertising an all-inclusive package and presenting a restaurant menu that suggests the food is included, these restrictions should be made clear before guests book. Otherwise, what exactly are we paying for when we book an all-inclusive? The Sports Bar also closes at 11pm. That's it. The hotel's main bar shuts at 11pm, which, in our opinion, is far too early for a holiday resort. When you are away on holiday, you want to relax, enjoy a few drinks and perhaps stay up a little later than you would at home. Instead, the closing time makes you feel as though you are being sent to bed. It gets even more frustrating when you consider the drinks service. From 10:30pm, drinks are served in plastic cups. I enjoy a glass of red wine or a whisky as a nightcap, so being handed a cheap plastic cup for these drinks was particularly disappointing. You've paid for an all-inclusive holiday, yet you are drinking your wine or whisky as though you are a child. Where is the quality of service with this! To be fair, the bar staff did serve my drinks in proper glasses after I complained. However, I should not have needed to complain in the first place. There were also several occasions when I went to the bar at around 11:03pm and was initially told that I could no longer be served because the bar had closed. Again, the staff did sometimes accommodate us a few minutes after closing, and I appreciate that they have rules to follow. But the whole experience felt unnecessarily regimented. I understand that staff need working hours and that bars have closing times. However, the combination of an early closing time, plastic cups from 10:30pm and a strict cut-off makes the all-inclusive experience feel very restrictive. We have had an enjoyable holiday overall. The food was excellent, the entertainment was good, the staff were lovely, the location was convenient and the apartment was spacious and comfortable. However, the tired condition of parts of the hotel, the standard of housekeeping and the restrictions surrounding the Sports Bar and drinks service were disappointing. For us, this hotel was okay. Just okay. There was nothing particularly special about it, and too many little things let it down. I appreciate that no hotel is perfect, and we have not criticised the hotel for things outside of its control, such as the mosquitoes or the October weather. However, when you are paying for a "4-star" all-inclusive holiday, you expect a certain standard of accommodation, maintenance and service. For us, this is a 3 star hotel. It has some very good qualities, but in its current condition and with the bar restrictions, we do not believe it delivers the 4-star experience guests should reasonably expect. A little investment in maintenance, a more consistent housekeeping service and a more relaxed approach to the all-inclusive facilities would make a real difference. It is a shame, because there is a lot here to like, but the hotel ultimately falls short of the standard it is trying to deliver.

I had a great time in hotel Viva Eden Lago with my family and friends. Hotel is placed near beautiful beach in Alcudia region. Service very friendly and helpful. Many amusments for kinds make this place very atractive for families who want to spend nice holidays.

This was our first holiday since becoming parents and of course, our 3 year olds first holiday. It was excellent. The staff, the cleanliness and the atmosphere were all perfect. It was a really quiet relaxing place to be and set within incredible surroundings. Even though we were a good hour and 45 from the airport by transfer, it didn’t feel that long because of the views of this beautiful island. I felt the location was excellent too. It was private but open to a very beautiful nearby beach. Which was so clean and scenic too. The room was comfortable and was cleaned all but two days, which was explained at check in and made no negative impact on our stay. For the price we paid, I thought it was incredible value - even though all my daughter wanted to do was bounce on the trampoline, play in the little play park and eat chips. All things we could have done at home, sure, but it would not have had the backdrop. I just want to thank the staff for being amazing, the entertainment was fantastic for the little one and we all had a great first holiday as a family. Thank you Viva

Nice hotel, nice food. Disappointed with the pool, it's very small. Loads of screaming babies put a disappointment on meal times. And , mosquitos, I was bitten 30 times in a week.
