The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon

The doorman is the first impression of a hotel, and it’s so important. Unfortunately, they were not very welcoming or helpful with the car and luggage, which wasn’t the standard I expected. That said, the reception team were absolutely adorable, warm and lovely.

Great stay. Comfortable and modern. Great restaurants and I enjoyed breakfast as well. Would definitely come back when I visit again.

We went there because we want to celabrate our wedding aniversary with my wife and kids, The key decision is the uniqueness of design and location. We found that the experience was very good. The room and decoration were as we expected. Comfy bed, nice bathroom and almost everything you need in the room or the services could bring what you request to you. The pool was not fantastic but it has nice view to take a nice photo. What we really beyond our expectation (the room and decoration were great) are as follows: 1. Breakfast: this is totally less is more. It does not seem to have the most variety but everything I love were there. Eggs, bacons, joke etc were there and at the quality of the hotel should be. Not something cooking by part-time cook. 2. We got free tickets to visit the rooftop bar of the tallest buildings in Thailand. The view was fanstastic. Too bad that it was just after heavy rain so it was a bit messy. It was a cool place to drink but the price there was bloody. 3. Staff service was very good. The check-in process took very long time and we could not get another room from our booking (we book 2 rooms). We finally had another room like 17:00. However, they made it up by providing a complementary sparkling wine and our drink at the pool. Therefore, I indicated that they care but it might be something unexpected. Overall manner of staffs were great as well. To be fair, this are what I do not like 1. Check-in procedure seems weird. I check-in multiple 5 star resorts (ok but not in Bangkok) and it did not make me boring. About another room, I think there was some communication gap between front and housekeeping. We were reported that the housekeeping was working on it for almost 2 hours with no result even I follow up personally. Anyway, really appreciated that they made up for it. 2. They really encourage valley parking. I use to drive and park my own car so this feel weird in some way. And maybe this is just for me, valley parking seems to use some extra effort and staff seems expecting tip. However, I hate to tip because of the system drive me to tip (unlike for waiter that I am happy to tip anyone who performs). If the hotel has no option but to do valley parking, they the staff there should be better train. It was not that obvious but I know. Comparing to some restaurant that they behave somehow that they do not expect tip, this was clear to me (even I tip the waiter at that restaurant coz I happy with his performance). If I want to tell you, it worth a visit for a night or two for Bangkokian who wants to celebrate special occation as well as a tourist. I really hope I just was a bad luck in that check-in drama and I would take BTS coz the traffic was bad anyway. Anway, I Hi-5 the shift manager who understands how to do to claim your angry customer down lol.

At THE STANDARD, not only the rooms are of standard (we have been coming back for consecutively 3 years now) and the rooms are still immaculately clean and well maintained! Best of all, the staff here remember you and say hi when they see you. I think as part of hospitality, it’s how they make you feel. Thank you Tyler and team for always making us feel so welcome. We will always come back every year to see you! ^^
