This was the best resort experience I have ever had. Lovely experience all round. Cocktails at the pool bar. Rooftop bar. Lovely breakfast and beautiful surroundings.

We recently spent a week at Anana Ecological Resort in Krabi, and while there were some positives to our stay, unfortunately, the overall experience fell considerably short of the five-star standards the hotel advertises. The positives: One of the hotel’s strongest features is its complimentary shuttle service into Krabi, which runs almost hourly until 9pm. This is a convenient and welcome addition, allowing guests to explore the surrounding area without having to rely on taxis. The reception staff were lovely – friendly, welcoming and helpful throughout our stay, and certainly deserve recognition. The food was acceptable, although nothing particularly memorable. The overall dining experience was fairly basic and lacked the quality and attention to detail you would normally associate with a five-star establishment. The saltwater swimming pool was pleasant, although there is a potential safety concern. The pool steps are difficult to distinguish because all the tiles are the same colour, making it easy to misjudge where the steps begin. Better visual markings would make a significant difference to guest safety. Where the hotel falls short: Unfortunately, it was the lack of attention to detail and basic hospitality standards that really let this hotel down. Having to request fresh towels on a daily basis is simply unacceptable at this level of accommodation. Our towels from the previous day had been taken leaving us with nothing! Even more frustrating was having to wait hours for them to be delivered. Guests should not have to repeatedly chase essential housekeeping items, particularly in a hotel advertising itself as five-star. Towards the end of our stay, we also discovered that bathrobes should have been provided in our room. Once again, we had to request something that should have been available from the outset. The room itself was another disappointment, particularly the lack of practical storage space. There was little to no provision for unpacking and storing clothes and personal belongings. While this might be manageable for a one- or two-night stay, it is far from ideal when spending an entire week at the property. Living out of a suitcase for seven days is hardly the experience you expect from a hotel claiming to offer luxury accommodation. Another significant issue was the ongoing construction work throughout the entire week of our stay. This detracted from the peaceful and relaxing environment you would expect when booking a resort holiday. The rooms also lack adequate soundproofing, meaning noise travels far too easily and compromises the privacy and tranquillity guests should reasonably expect. A five-star hotel in name, but not in experience What became increasingly apparent during our week was that Anana seems much better suited to guests staying for one or two nights rather than those looking for a longer, relaxing resort holiday. Many of the guests appeared to be using it as a short-stay base, and having spent seven nights here, I can understand why. There is a considerable difference between marketing a hotel as five-star and consistently delivering a five-star experience. For me, five-star hospitality is not simply about the appearance of a property or the facilities listed on a website. It is about consistency, attention to detail, comfort, quality of service and anticipating guests’ needs rather than waiting for them to raise issues. Having to chase towels, request missing amenities, contend with inadequate storage and experience construction disruption throughout our stay is not reflective of that standard. Overall verdict: Anana Ecological Resort has some positive attributes, particularly its welcoming reception team, convenient shuttle service and pleasant saltwater pool. However, these are overshadowed by inconsistent housekeeping, limited room storage, inadequate soundproofing, ongoing construction work and a general lack of the finer touches expected from a luxury resort. The hospitality felt basic rather than exceptional, and the overall experience simply did not justify the hotel’s five-star positioning. For a short stay, it may be perfectly adequate. However, for a week-long holiday where comfort, relaxation, good service and attention to detail matter, I would struggle to recommend it. Ultimately, Anana is a hotel with potential, but it needs to focus on delivering the fundamentals consistently before it can genuinely live up to its advertised five-star status.
