Royal Azur Thalasso

Very disappointed for a 5* hotel. The actual hotel is lovely and staff round the pool are good, bar staff are miserable. The food is rubbish, cold and not labelled very well. Beware if you have a late flight there is no late checkout or courtesy room. Entertainment is zero and drinks are awful, to upgrade them is very expensive. Would not recommend this hotel

First the good Very clean hotel , bedrooms huge with great views ( we had superior sea view ) staff in restaurants very helpful and polite , food amazing quality , great choice of pools and beach area . Bad Sunbed wars as normal , watched people saving beds 5.30 am in morning , some staff were putting towels on beds to save .sometimes on beach towels on bed all day and nobody turned up . Drinks not great on beach , usually warm and staff not very friendly , would have loved drinks offered on beach and happy to give good tip for this service . No drinks in room , just 2 bottles warm water ( small ) Bathroom , step in shower , walk in shower would be safer . Hardly any entertainment very quiet in evenings ( some people may be happy with this ) Arrived at hotel 11am after being at airport from 3 am so very hot tired , but room not ready until 3 pm , would be nice if rooms ready earlier Overall amazing hotel just needs a few tweaks .

This hotel is beautiful, probably one of the best i have stayed in, its so clean and well presented, the pool areas are also lovely. Our room was spacious, clean and modern, the only drawback was the lack of a balcony, which I did not anticipate. The restaurant is bright and spacious with indoor and outdoor seating, staff work hard and appreciate your tips, special mention to Fathi who was very attentive and stood out for us. I heard the odd grumble about the food, but I found something to eat every day and I was surprised others didn't! Its fresh, well presented and plentiful. I got up early to ensure a bed around the pool area, its a shame the guy who issues pool towels seems to have his own side hussle going on, reserving many many beds for the highest tips, leaving some beds vacant all day.. the towels provided are also more like table cloths rather than towels, bring your own if you can! We ventured outside the hotel to the local medina, the hassle from the locals to visit their shops or family shops meant an early return to the hotel for us... you may not be so put off by this... Overall we had a fabulous week, the weather was amazing, the ocean warm, beach clean, pools exceptional, and hotel staff very helpful, pool staff not so much but did not take away our enjoyment.

We booked the Royal Azur Thalasso through On the Beach on the premise it had the facilities advertised - a sky bar, a wine cellar of world-class wines, ten restaurants and bars, a 24/7 bar, gym access, and five swimming pools. When we arrived almost none of this was true. The sky bar doesn't exist. We asked staff where it was and they pointed to an area by the pool that only had sunloungers, telling us this was the sky bar and that we could have drinks and food there. When we pressed, it was clear this wasn't true as there was no bar area at all. The wine cellar opened once during our stay, for one hour, on a Thursday, advertised as wine and champagne tasting. It was neither regular nor champagne - just local wine, and it was undrinkable. The bartender running it was more interested in using his phone than looking after guests, and 15 minutes before the session was due to end he started clearing away the wine and food despite more guests arriving and still choosing what to have. We understood the hotel had a selection of restaurants but there was actually only one buffet style restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The bars were an indoor one, a poolside one that wasn't open all day, and a beach bar that closed at 6pm - food at the beach bar wasn't included in all inclusive and the poolside bar only offered a limited sandwich menu. The drinks package was very limited and they often didn't have certain drinks available. For a 5 star hotel we were served drinks in paper cups or a mismatch of plastic cups, and the quality of the cocktails was awful to the point that we stopped drinking them. The gym incurred an additional charge outside of all inclusive, and so did two of the pools, despite all of this being advertised as included when we booked. On the Beach does have small print somewhere saying facilities may be seasonal or not included in all inclusive, but this needs to be far clearer. We travelled at the end of August/start of September, which is high season, and the vast majority of what we've listed above simply wasn't seasonal at all - it just wasn't there, or wasn't included, full stop. A vague blanket caveat buried in the terms doesn't excuse advertising a sky bar that doesn't exist, or a wine cellar that opens once a week for an hour (or less in our experience). The staff were the worst part of our stay and made it genuinely uncomfortable. A bar man mimicked one of our party members in front of her for simply saying thank you. We raised a complaint and he went on to mock another member of our group again. A front desk member of staff, Ezzet, came to "resolve" the situation but his demeanour remained the same as it had been all week - condescending and patronising in his tone - and rather than taking our feedback on board he became defensive and stormed off. Earlier in the trip we'd asked him a couple of questions and he treated us as though we were uneducated. The one person who was actually helpful was Zainab at Guest Experience. When we showed her the On the Beach hotel description she laughed and admitted it was completely inaccurate - she was honest and approachable, unlike most of the rest of the team. The golf and horse riding advertised didn't exist at all. Tennis, basketball and mini golf were technically there but unused during our entire visit and looked tired and dilapidated. When we asked about activities, entertainment and other bars, we were repeatedly told they were all in the hotel next door. We were told we could access some of this, but not the swimming pool there, and all inclusive wasn't included either - so anything we wanted to eat or drink at the sister hotel was at our own expense. It's such a shame because the setting is lovely and the landscaping around the pool and beach area is lovely too, but the hotel just hasn't created a 3 star feel let alone 5 star. Based on our experience we would never visit this hotel again, the staff are rude, and it's very disappointing that the holiday company can get away with such misdescriptions of a holiday.
