Well I don't normally leave poor reviews but feel compelled to write this! Its a long one! Lets start with the hotel building itself. Clearly an older Moorish style building which has benefitted from a recent renovation in some areas. The hotel is littered throughout with water features which would give a wonderful calming atmosphere if they actually contained water and were working! Other than the two fountains at the front of the hotel we didn't see another one working ( maybe I should provide a link to Amazon for some cheap solar powered fountains which would be ideal for the outside ones.) The newly renovated areas look really good, Modern furniture with an nod to its heritage. Garden area is in much need of attention but given that the hotel has been closed for renovation is no surprise. Paths and walkways are restricted by overgrown and hanging branches. Pools - the main pool is vibrant with lots of activities provided by a very good animation team. A dj style desk provides music throughout the day ( not our style) but totally fitting to the pools vibe. We opted for the Zen or quiet pool which sounded more our style with no music and a more peaceful relaxing atmosphere. Disappointingly this was not the case, yes there was no music however the ambience was disrupted by children playing in the pool - I'm no killjoy but I believe this pool would benefit from being an adults only area and leave the ball game to the activity pool. Room - the holiday we chose came with a superior double ( a standard double must resemble a prison cell ! ) with garden view provided . This was very disappointing - bathroom was basic with an over bath shower ( plenty of hot water and good pressure) . Hand wash, shower gel and shampoo were provided but took two days and three visits to reception to get them filled up as they were empty on our arrival. Towel rail was hanging off the wall and also reported to reception but wasn't fixed until it fell off and reception informed again. A wardrobe with plenty of hangers for both of us was provided along with good shelving and two drawers - one of which had no drawer front attached. TV in room was small and had no English speaking channels, we do like to watch the news with our morning coffee. Ah ! coffee - no facility to make tea or coffee in your room, you must visit the 24 hour bar for a take away cup. Garden view was a car park! Fridge was small with only one bottle of water, which wasn't replenished by housekeeping, no soft drinks! Worst of all air conditioning which reached an all time low of 23.4 degrees even though it was set to 16 degrees. Smoke alarm wiring was in place but no alarm fitted! Drinks - activity pool drinks - very weak, cocktails served in hideously small glasses . Zen pool - ran out of beer two days out of the six we visited, big shout out to Isidin (maybe spelt incorrectly) for walking the ten minutes to the activity pool to bring us cold ones back ( a small daily tip goes a long way!) 24 hour bar has good service, even when you sit outside in the courtyard, and has the best drinks. Again they also had issues with the beer as we waited for our airport transfer again the barman obliged by walking to the pool bar to bring us some back. Food - probably the star act at this hotel. Breakfast has a good variety of cereals, fruit, yogurt, meats cheese, salads etc Smoothies are available with ingredients of your choice. Crepes, omelets (cooked to order) eggs, Tunisian breads freshly made. Croissants , cakes ,pastries are all readily available. Lunch (we only visited on our final day) but had a good variety of choices both hot and cold. Dinner, again plenty of choices fish and seafood feature heavily as you would expect, alongside Tunisian dishes. Pizza and pasta station is available for pickier eaters. Show cooking stations are impressive. Which brings me to the all inclusive set menu Tunisian restaurant , this does not exist! It is still being constructed despite TUI offering you a free visit! What is provided is a meal cooked in the main restaurant which is wheeled over on a trolley covered in foil and served to you at the poolside snack bar ! This was a major issue of our holiday which caused much upset to myself and my wife along with other guests. After a heated exchange with the ignorant dining room manager, who actually called me a liar (he eventually apologized as we were checking out!) and Guest relations man (who does not know how to deal with confrontation), and consequently avoided us for the rest of the holiday this was eventually resolved by the lovely Safira ( Zafira?) Thank you! Overall view of the hotel, could be a fantastic place but has opened up before the renovation is complete and is over populated. Bars are struggling to provide drinks in suitable glasses (understaffed and not clearing empties? ) same situation in main restaurant running out of both cutlery and crockery. Sadly I cannot recommend!
