After spending 10 nights at Commodore Elite Suites & Spa, we came away with very mixed feelings. This is one of those hotels that many people will absolutely love, while others, like us, may leave wondering what all the fuss is about. I’ll start with the positives because there are plenty. Without question, this was the best food we’ve ever had on an all-inclusive holiday. Every meal was fresh, varied and beautifully presented. The chefs clearly take enormous pride in what they do. Fresh omelettes were cooked to order every morning, the soups were outstanding (the tomato soup deserves a special mention!), and the use of fresh herbs and spices such as ginger and turmeric gave many dishes real depth of flavour. The waffles with cherry syrup and ice cream became one of our favourite afternoon treats. Simply put, the culinary team deserves enormous credit. The coffee shop was another highlight, serving excellent barista-style coffee throughout the day. Combined with the outstanding food, it quickly became one of our favourite places to relax. The hotel was also exceptionally clean throughout our stay. Housekeeping did a fantastic job, and the beach was spotless, well maintained and a lovely place to spend the day. We also appreciated the free full-size pool table and table tennis table, which were a nice extra. We booked a full sea-view room on the fifth floor and the view was excellent. The in-room television also offered a great selection of international channels, which was another thoughtful touch. Unfortunately, this is where the positives ended for us. The hotel itself is overdue a refurbishment. The rooms, furniture and décor are showing their age, and even the reception and lobby lacked the impressive “wow factor” we’ve experienced at other five-star hotels. The biggest disappointment was the atmosphere. We chose an adults-only hotel expecting a relaxed but sociable environment with music around the pool, quality cocktails and enjoyable evenings. Instead, the pool area was incredibly quiet. The music was so low that you could barely hear it, even sitting only a few metres from the speakers. We actually raised this with Customer Relations and were told that many guests preferred to sleep around the pool, so the volume was intentionally kept very low. In fairness, the hotel’s website does describe it as a peaceful and relaxing hotel, so perhaps we should have paid more attention to that before booking. One thing that also seemed poorly thought out was the layout of the pool area. A large section of the sunbeds closest to the speakers was reserved for guests with accessibility needs, which is absolutely the right thing to provide. However, it seemed an odd place to locate them when the hotel’s policy was to keep the music almost inaudible because many guests wanted peace and quiet. It felt like a contradiction. The issue wasn’t the accessible sunbeds themselves, but the decision to place them in what would normally be considered the liveliest part of the pool. One conversation summed it up perfectly. We met a friendly Scottish gentleman who told us he was 65 and loved coming here because it was one of the few places where he felt like one of the youngest guests. We all had a laugh, but by the end of our holiday we completely understood what he meant. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, and it’s clearly one of the reasons so many guests return year after year. However, if you’re in your 40s or 50s and looking for an adults-only hotel with a bit of life, music and a social atmosphere, this probably isn’t the right choice. The evening entertainment was, quite frankly, disappointing for a hotel charging five-star prices. There was entertainment every night, but it lacked quality, variety and atmosphere. The hotel even has its own nightclub, but during our stay it was almost always empty. One evening I was literally the only guest there! After a while, the staff understandably seemed keener than I was for the evening to end. It made me smile more than anything else, but it summed up the overall atmosphere. The bar service was nowhere near the standard I’d expect from a five-star ultra all-inclusive hotel. Many of the staff appeared inexperienced, and ordering a classic cocktail such as an Old Fashioned highlighted this immediately. A bartender in a hotel of this standard should know how to make one without looking puzzled, and when I asked for bitters at the pool bar, the staff didn’t even know what they were. Cocktails were frequently made with local substitute spirits unless I specifically requested branded alcohol and stood there watching them prepare the drink. I found it frustrating that I had to supervise almost every cocktail just to ensure it was made properly. For a hotel charging five-star prices, the bar service was a real disappointment. We also found the plastic wristbands unnecessary and a little cheap-looking for a hotel positioning itself as a premium adults-only resort. The hotel appears to cater predominantly to German-speaking guests. This didn’t bother us in the slightest—we met some lovely people—but many staff seemed more comfortable speaking German than English, and even the morning welcome over the speakers began with “Guten Morgen, Commodore.” English-speaking guests should simply be aware of this. The hotel also enforces a very strict dress code for dinner. Smart tailored shorts were not permitted in the main restaurant, even in the warm evening temperatures. I have no issue with standards being maintained, but this rule felt unnecessarily strict for a beach resort and a little out of touch with modern five-star holiday hotels. Another point to consider is the transfer from Antalya Airport. Ours took almost two hours, including several other hotel drop-offs, making for a very long first and last day. One issue that affected our stay was being woken most mornings between 4:00 and 5:00 a.m. by the call to prayer from a nearby mosque. We completely respect that this is part of daily life and local culture, but light sleepers should be aware that it is clearly audible from the hotel. Finally, one thing we found a little uncomfortable was being asked on more than one occasion to leave a positive review while we were still at the hotel. Encouraging feedback is absolutely fine, but it felt as though collecting favourable reviews was given a lot of emphasis. Overall, this isn’t a bad hotel. Far from it. If your idea of the perfect holiday is peace, quiet, outstanding food, excellent coffee, immaculate cleanliness and a beautiful beach, you’ll probably love it and understand why so many guests return year after year. Our disappointment came down to value for money. We paid a premium expecting a modern five-star adults-only resort with a relaxed but sociable atmosphere. Instead, we found a hotel that excelled in some areas—particularly the food, cleanliness and beach—but fell short in others, including the dated accommodation, bar service, entertainment and overall atmosphere. For us, it simply wasn’t worth the money we paid. We wanted a premium adults-only resort with music around the pool, experienced bartenders, quality evening entertainment and a little more energy. Would we return? Probably not. Ask me again in another 20 years… we might fit in perfectly by then!

We have just returned from the Commodore Elite staying from the 28th February to the 7 March. This was our 20th visit . What can I say! This hotel is absolutely outstanding and amazing . Never disappointed. Five minutes walk to the main shopping area with bars & restaurants. Plenty of bus stops to go to the market in Manavgat , Side or anywhere else you may wish to visit. The quality of the hotel is first class. Everything is spotlessly clean. The food choices are great with something for everyone. Staff are friendly, welcoming and always give a first class service at every meal. There is a lovely cafeteria with ice cream & cakes and different drinks to choose from. There is a cinema although we didn't watch anything it’s there if you wish to use it. The outdoor and indoor swimming pool area was super clean as always although pool a bit cold for us this time of year. There is always something to do from playing pool, Boccia , outdoor chess, outdoor crazy golf & games room but if you just want to chill out by the pool, there's plenty of sunbeds . Guests are still looked after out of season, with entertainment during the day & night. Darts & Archery in the day & singing acts/dancing acts/karaoke/bingo in the evening. There is a fruit cart that goes around the pool offering you fruit and also a cocktail bar on wheels offering you a cocktail if you fancy one.Around 3.00pm is, a waffle cart comes out, very popular. Our room was on the side with a sea view as always the room was spotless & cleaned every day. The hotel provides shampoo, conditioner, body wash & liquid soap together with two pairs of slippers & two bath robes. The mini bar is re-stocked daily (Coke, Fanta Orange, Sprite, juice cartons, bottled water & beer) & biscuits, peanuts & crackers. The usual tea/coffee etc is also topped up. No wonder we keep returning . A big mention to Tatyana and all guest relations , a big thank you to all the reception staff , bell boys . Bar staff Gamze, Senna, Alma’s and the animation guys. Thank you Ozzy and Bobby for making our stay so special you are a breath of fresh air. Ozzy your amazing so friendly and you can tell you love your job. The waiters/waitresses in the restaurants & bars are constantly working none stop offering you more drinks literally as soon as your glass is empty. Plates are taken away as soon as they see you have finished. Can’t wait to return in June. Commodore thank you for making our holiday so special Read less
