Extremely disappointing — the food completely ruined what could have been a great holiday We stayed at Oz Hotel in Slants from 21 August for 13 nights, and unfortunately, what should have been a relaxing and enjoyable holiday turned into a very disappointing experience, primarily because of one major issue: the food was absolutely horrendous. I want to start by making it clear that this review is not simply an attack on the hotel or its staff. In fact, quite the opposite. The staff were genuinely great — friendly, helpful and polite, and they were one of the best aspects of our stay. The rooms were also good and, overall, the accommodation itself was perfectly acceptable. The pool, however, was fairly mediocre and nothing particularly special. But then there was the food. The food was, without exaggeration, some of the worst food I have ever experienced at a hotel. I have stayed in plenty of hotels, travelled extensively, and have eaten in some very basic places over the years. I have even eaten better food while serving in the military — and I mean 50 times better. That is how bad the food was here. For a 13-night stay, you expect some variation. You expect that even if you don’t love every meal, there will at least be enough decent options to keep you satisfied. Instead, we found ourselves repeatedly struggling to find anything that was remotely enjoyable or even appealing enough to eat. The biggest problem was that this wasn’t just a case of the food being bland or not being to our personal taste. The quality was genuinely poor. It got to the point where I simply stopped eating much of it because I didn’t want to risk feeling even worse. And unfortunately, this wasn’t just about taste. Our stomachs were in a terrible state for the entire 13 days. I personally had diarrhoea for practically the whole stay, and the rest of us were also suffering with sore and unsettled stomachs throughout the holiday. It completely took away from the experience of being on holiday. You shouldn’t have to spend your time worrying about whether the next meal is going to leave you feeling ill. Even now that we are back home, we are still not feeling right, which is extremely disappointing and concerning after spending so much money on what was supposed to be a holiday. What makes it even worse is that we weren’t the only ones saying this. We spoke to numerous other people during our stay, and the same issue kept coming up — the food. Pretty much everyone we spoke to had something negative to say about it, with people complaining about the quality and the effect it was having on their stomachs. So this certainly didn’t feel like it was just us being overly fussy or having different tastes. I am half Turkish myself, which makes this particularly disappointing. Türkiye is world-renowned for its food, and Turkish cuisine is one of the things many people look forward to when visiting. To come to Türkiye and have such an unbelievably poor food experience was a massive let-down. I honestly found myself thinking that I could have been eating better somewhere completely different. Again, I’ve eaten better meals in the military — by a huge margin. When you’re on holiday in Türkiye, you expect fresh, well-prepared, flavourful food. Instead, far too often we were presented with food that was difficult to get excited about and, based on how our stomachs reacted, difficult to trust. What makes this even more frustrating is that the hotel has the potential to be much better. If the food had been good — genuinely good, fresh, varied and properly prepared — I would have absolutely no hesitation giving this hotel around 4.6/5. The staff deserve credit, the rooms were good, and there are clearly some positive things going for the place. But food is not a minor detail when you’re staying for 13 nights. It is a huge part of an all-inclusive or hotel holiday. When you are paying to stay somewhere for nearly two weeks, you shouldn’t have to spend your holiday wondering what you can possibly eat without upsetting your stomach. We saved for an entire year for this holiday. That’s a lot of time putting money aside and looking forward to having a proper break, and to come home feeling like our money was completely wasted because of one of the most important parts of the holiday is incredibly disappointing. You only get so many holidays, and when you’ve spent a year saving for one, you expect to come home with great memories. Instead, one of the strongest memories we have is of poor food, upset stomachs and constantly trying to find something we could actually eat. The food situation genuinely ruined the overall experience for us. Because of this, we definitely won’t be coming back. It’s such a shame because, as I said, if the food had been anywhere near the standard you would expect, this could have easily been a 4.6/5 review. I don’t normally leave reviews this harsh, and I appreciate that everyone’s experience can be different, but I can only review what happened to us. This wasn’t one bad meal or one disappointing evening. This was a problem that continued throughout our entire 13-night stay, and from speaking to other guests, we certainly weren’t alone in feeling this way. Management seriously needs to look at the food operation, the quality of the ingredients, preparation, storage, hygiene and overall standards. Something needs to change because whatever is currently being served is simply not good enough. The staff were great. The rooms were good. The pool was average. But the food was so bad that it completely overshadowed the positives. It’s a huge shame because there is a decent hotel underneath all of this, but when the food is this bad for an entire 13-night stay, it completely changes your experience. For us, the difference between a potentially 4.6/5 holiday and the experience we actually had came down almost entirely to the food. Sadly, based on our experience, we can’t recommend this hotel and we definitely won’t be returning. Staff: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rooms: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pool: ⭐⭐⭐ Food: ⭐ Overall: ⭐⭐
