Celal Sultan

The Celal Sutlan Hotel certainly proved to be a great choice for out three night stay in Istanbul. Not only are its prices reasonable and include a very adequate and tasty breakfast buffet to help start each new day, but its location is only a short walk of about 300 metres away from Sultanahmet Square, which is really very handy. That then gave us easy to access to both, the Hagia Sofia and Blue Mosques as well as other sights on the square that once was home the ancient Byzantine Hippodrome. Plus, the added bonus that the Istanbul tram line M1 runs through this square, making it very easy to get to places such as the Grand Bazaar or the Galata Bridge (for a boat ride). The hotel is very clean and comfortable with friendly and very helpful staff and it is surrounded by a number of very good restaurants, so we were spoilt for choice when looking for our evening meal. If you want to stay somewhere close to the city’s most important sights then, with its slightly old world charm and fabulous location, the Celal Sultan is a hard hotel to beat.

This was our second stay at this hotel, and once again we were very happy with our experience. The rooms were very clean, comfortable, and well maintained. The staff were incredibly friendly, kind, helpful, and always welcoming. The location is absolutely perfect for exploring Istanbul. Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Gülhane Park, and many other historical attractions are within easy walking distance. You can reach almost everywhere on foot, which makes the location very convenient. We truly enjoyed our stay and felt very comfortable here. With its excellent location, cleanliness, and wonderful staff, we would definitely recommend this hotel. We would happily stay here again on our next visit to Istanbul. We arrived from a cruise boat at 9.00 a.m. Our room would not be ready till 11, but they held the luggage and offered us a free breakfast. The staff could not have been more helpful. We had a 'suite' comprising a large bed, table and chairs, small balcony with table and chairs and a superb view of Ayasofia, and a magnificent bathroom. Whilst not 5 star luxury, it was clean and comfortable. But the best thing about the hotel is its location. Given that we had 30+ degree temperatures and that Istanbul's traffic is congested - to say the least - the hotel is on a quiet side street. It is five minutes walk to Ayasofia, the Blue Mosque etc and not much more to the Grand Bazaar. There are cafes and small restaurants at the top of the street, and bigger tourist restaurants within easy walking distance, more or less on the flat. We stayed only one night, but if we visit again, we will certainly remember this hotel.

If I'd start with the good things I'd say the the Hotel is located very practically, near the mosques and it's easy to get to tourism places, the customer service is very good too, nice staff but!- we had to carry all the luggage up to the rooms by ourselves😮‍💨 Now the not so great part: First the room had a strong smell of chlorine wich felt suffocating, we changed rooms- but there was water leaking from the walls, the toilet bidet was leaking, there was a lot of dirt on the ceiling and the bathroom looked gross in generall, there's no good lights in the room, very dark and it was just very unpleasant to sleep there!
