Riu Jambo

I will start with saying this hotel is possibly the best hotel I have ever stayed in and I have been to Caribbean, Mexico, far east etc. The hotel grounds are spotless and constantly being maintained. The restaurants and food are amazing, it most of all the staff are what makes this hotel special. Never met so many friendly beautiful people who can’t do enough to make you happy and your stay special. Our holiday was disrupted due to the issues in the Middle East and the hotel were so accommodating to our needs and couldn’t do enough to look after us. I always say I will never return to the same place however I will definitely be back here.

Excellent, clean and tidy. Staff are very helpful, kind, polite and professional. A special thank you to Leah from the main buffet entrance who always greets us with a smile. It's the little things that matter. Buffet and bar staff are also very welcoming.

This review is based on getting to the hotel and checking in, will update after that stay. We booked through Tui and whilst there was reference to a visa requirement you are also required to purchase their travel insurance, discovered at the airport which was stressful, plus when you get to the hotel the tourist tax, in total it amounts to more than 300 dollars. A bit of a surprise when adding onto the price of the holiday... that aside the two flights with Turkish Airlines from Gatwick via Istanbul to Zanzibar are long but okay, at least 22h total travelling time. Sadly we arrived at the hotel ,shattered, but we were told the room wasn't ready and we would have to wait until 3pm. We would have thought for a large resort long journeys and arriving early could be better managed allowing for tired travellers to get some sleep. We now feel we have wasted another day.

Unfortunately, our experience at this hotel did not meet expectations for a resort of this category. The property felt extremely crowded, which significantly impacted the overall atmosphere and relaxation. Public areas were busy, service felt stretched, and the overall customer experience did not feel well managed. In addition, the layout of the resort makes everything quite far and inconvenient to access, which becomes frustrating, especially in the heat. More concerning were the in-room conditions. We experienced multiple mosquito bites shortly after arrival and there was no mosquito net or visible prevention in place. We also encountered a large insect in the room, which was unsettling. While we understand this is a tropical destination, we expected stronger preventive measures and better comfort standards as we experienced in other hotels on the same destination. Due to all these we changed the hotel with support of our agency. The staff have been polite, but overall the guest experience and comfort level were not aligned with what we anticipated.
