Royal Mandarin Hotel & Resort

Where do I begin? I booked this expecting it was a premium resort, only to be greatly disappointed. First, they said we have no reservation despite the confirmation details. After 2 hours and many phone calls to our travel agent, they brought us to our rooms. The room has a musty, moldy smell, furnitures were dated, areas of the bathroom had molds. When we took a shower, the whole bedroom flooded, so we asked to be moved. While that was being sorted out, the lights kept turning off, making it even harder to gather our stuff and move. The very next day, we booked a different hotel 5 minutes away and had a much better experience. No refund was provided. This place is like a Motel 6 in the US, and I wouldn't rate it higher than 2 stars.

ROYAL MANDARIN – NOT JUST A HOTEL, BUT A SECOND HOME ❤️ THE BEST CHOICE WE COULD HAVE EVER MADE! Words will never be enough to describe how incredible our experience at Royal Mandarin in Pwani Mchangani, Zanzibar, was. We spent 12 unforgettable days here for our honeymoon, and honestly, choosing this hotel was the BEST decision we could have made. It became so much more than just a place to stay. It became our second home, and leaving it brought tears to my eyes. If I could, I would go back tomorrow and never leave again! ❤️🌴 From the very first moment, we were welcomed with so much warmth and kindness. We received refreshing towels beautifully presented on a tray and a welcome drink, followed by a lovely tour of the hotel. Even though we arrived early in the morning, around 7–8 AM, we received our room in less than an hour! This was such a wonderful start to our honeymoon, and we immediately felt that we were in the right place. Cleanliness deserves a special mention. The entire resort, including the gardens and outdoor areas, was beautifully maintained. Our room was cleaned twice a day, and the bathroom was fully equipped with everything we needed. Everything was taken care of with such attention to detail that we could simply relax and enjoy every moment. The pools were lovely and pleasantly warm, the ocean was absolutely stunning and crystal clear, and the sand was so white that it almost looked unreal. The massages were wonderful, too, and we would highly recommend trying them! The food and drinks were another highlight. If you happen to miss breakfast, there are snacks available at the Pwanissimo restaurant, and if you miss lunch, you can still find snacks downstairs by the restaurant. You never have to worry about going hungry! And the COCKTAILS… absolutely delicious! We honestly couldn’t get enough of them! 🍹 The entertainment team deserves a huge amount of praise. The activities and programmes they organised added so much fun, laughter and unforgettable memories to our holiday. They brought so much life and positive energy to the resort and made every day feel special. Since we were celebrating our honeymoon, the hotel surprised us with a cake and a lovely birthday-style song celebration. It was such a thoughtful and beautiful gesture that made us feel truly special. Thank you for making this milestone in our lives even more memorable! ❤️ But if there is one thing that makes Royal Mandarin truly exceptional, it is THE PEOPLE. The staff are absolutely amazing: friendly, welcoming, caring, funny and genuinely wonderful human beings. They don’t just do their jobs; they make you feel like family. Some of them became so special to us that we are still keeping in touch and maintaining the friendships we made during our stay. A special THANK YOU to Ramadan, Faustin, Fausida, Tammy, Hashim, Fabian, Muhidini, James, Godfrey, Emanuel, McDonald, Ibrahim from the massage cabin, and so many other wonderful people whose names I may not have mentioned here. Every single one of you contributed to making our honeymoon unforgettable. You made us laugh, feel welcome, and create memories that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. Asante sana! ❤️ After 12 days, saying goodbye was genuinely heartbreaking. I never expected to become so emotionally attached to a hotel, but Royal Mandarin is different. We didn’t feel like guests staying at a resort; we felt like we belonged there. Leaving felt like saying goodbye to a second home and to people who had become part of our story. We arrived as honeymooners looking forward to a beautiful holiday, and we left with full hearts, incredible memories, new friendships and a little piece of Zanzibar that will always stay with us. If you are considering booking Royal Mandarin, DO IT! You will not regret it. For us, it was so much more than a five-star holiday. It was an experience filled with love, kindness, happiness and unforgettable moments. I could honestly write until tomorrow about how wonderful this place is, and I would still have more to say. We already miss it so much, and we would return in a heartbeat. Royal Mandarin, thank you for giving us a honeymoon that exceeded every expectation and for making us feel at home so far away from home. You didn’t just give us a holiday.
