Royal Mandarin Hotel & Resort

We had a lovely stay at the hotel, and the views were absolutely incredible. The staff were without a doubt the highlight of our trip — they were amazing, so friendly, helpful and genuinely went above and beyond to look after us. A special mention has to go to the bar staff and McDonald in the restaurant, who were fantastic throughout our stay. The cocktails were lovely, and there were some really enjoyable activities. We particularly enjoyed the village walk and visiting the local school. We just wish we had been given more information beforehand, as we would have taken more money with us to support the school. We did manage to buy the children some lollies, which was lovely. For a two-week stay, we did find that the food and entertainment became a little repetitive, so we would probably recommend a shorter stay for this reason. IMPORTANT ACCESSIBILITY WARNING FOR WHEELCHAIR USERS I feel it is extremely important to highlight the accessibility issues, particularly for anyone considering this hotel because they are a wheelchair user or have mobility difficulties. Before travelling, we tried to contact the hotel through WhatsApp and email to make sure our needs were understood. Unfortunately, the communication was poor. Our transfer was not organised properly, and we were not given accurate information about the accessibility of the resort. At the time we booked, the hotel was advertised as being disabled friendly. However, we found that the resort was not suitably accessible for a wheelchair user. There is a large hill around the resort, and some of the ramps were unsafe and very difficult to use with a wheelchair. More importantly, there is a set of stairs that is the only access to the pool and the food areas. There is no suitable wheelchair-accessible alternative. This meant that I had to bum-slide down the stairs to get to the pool and food while someone else carried my wheelchair down for me. I found this extremely embarrassing and upsetting, and it meant that I was completely dependent on other people just to access these basic areas of the resort. I could not independently get to the pool or food areas. The toilet facilities were also not easily accessible for me. There were one or two steps to get into the toilets, and there were no grab rails, which made using them difficult and unsafe. Our room also did not have the accessibility features we had expected. The staff did recognise that this had been a mistake and, to their credit, they were incredibly helpful throughout our stay. They helped me around the resort wherever they could and genuinely did everything possible to make things easier for us. I cannot fault the staff for their kindness or effort. I have also noticed that the hotel has since removed the disabled-friendly and disabled room wording from its website, which I appreciate. I would strongly encourage anyone with accessibility requirements to speak to the hotel directly and ask very specific questions about every part of the resort before booking. I would not recommend assuming that the hotel is wheelchair accessible based on its previous advertising. The beach itself is beautiful, although there are lots of sellers. During the reef walk, we were followed by sellers for the entire route, which was uncomfortable. I would have liked the hotel staff to be a little firmer about asking them to give guests some space. Despite the accessibility issues, there were so many positives to our stay. The hotel itself is lovely, the views are insane, the cocktails were great and the activities were enjoyable. Most importantly, the staff were absolutely amazing and made a difficult situation much easier for us. They were compassionate, helpful and clearly cared about making sure we were looked after. Overall, we had a lovely holiday and I would recommend the hotel for its beautiful setting, wonderful staff and activities. However, if you are a wheelchair user or require accessible accommodation, please take the accessibility concerns very seriously and contact the hotel directly before booking. The resort has significant physical access limitations that we were not made aware of beforehand, and better communication could have made a huge difference to our experience.

Was great and everyone was so nice food was great and rooms are great

We booked this hotel without really looking into it, but when we arrived, we were very surprised. The distinctive feature of this hotel is its staff! Every person who interacted with us brought positivity and a desire to create comfort and a relaxing atmosphere in everything. I would really like to express a special thanks to Mr. McDonald for the fun evenings in the restaurant and the best service. He is a person who cares about how the hotel develops. The animators are great, there’s a gym, a lobby bar, and a restaurant. There are quite a few activities on the hotel grounds. The hotel itself is located in a comfortable place, with a secluded beach and a beautiful view. There are two swimming pools on the premises, and you can always take a dip when the tide is low. During low tide, you can take a walk to the reef, but you’ll need shoes, as there are many sea urchins on the seabed. The cuisine is good and varied; you can always find something to your liking, and there’s a new menu every day. We stayed in a villa with a sea view, and every evening Bushbabies would come by — they’re quite timid, but they really love bananas. I recommend this hotel!

We had a wonderful stay in Zanzibar and can absolutely recommend this hotel. The food was consistently very good and varied, our room was clean, comfortable and serviced reliably every day. But what really stood out was the exceptional friendliness of the entire team. You truly feel welcome here and not just like another guest. A very special compliment goes to the hotel manager, Achmed. He was incredibly friendly, attentive and helpful at all times. You can tell that he genuinely cares about his guests and wants them to have a great stay. The massages were also absolutely fantastic and were the perfect addition to our holiday. The staff were very professional and the treatments were incredibly relaxing. All in all, it was a wonderful holiday. We felt very comfortable here and would definitely come back. A big thank you to the entire team for making our stay so special! 🌴☀️
