The Mora Zanzibar

The hotel has a great location! In an idyllic position. A really tranquil place to recharge your batteries. The rooms are spacious and perfectly adequate for all that you should need. All the staff are so friendly & really make a difference. All together a great value destination. Cleanliness is spot on, & it was a tranquil location.

We spent five unforgettable nights at The Mora Zanzibar. We were in Zanzibar celebrating my birthday as a couple, and ending our holiday at The Mora was truly the perfect finale to our trip. From the moment we arrived, the welcome was incredibly warm. We were immediately greeted with chilled towels and a welcome drink – and it was actually delicious, not just the usual glass of sparkling wine. The entire hotel staff was exceptionally attentive, friendly and helpful throughout our stay. It genuinely felt like everyone cared about how we were doing and whether there was anything they could do for us, whether it was food, drinks or anything else. Throughout our stay, the staff remembered my birthday and arranged several different surprises for us. These thoughtful gestures made the experience feel very personal and left us with some wonderful memories. The rooms are very spacious, beautifully designed and kept spotlessly clean. A special mention also goes to the turn-down service, which adds an extra touch of luxury to the whole experience. A lot of thought has clearly gone into the food and drinks as well. In addition to the buffet, the hotel has several excellent à la carte restaurants. The restaurant staff deserve a special mention – they truly put their hearts into what they do and make every guest feel welcome. Bilal was always smiling whenever we saw him and made every interaction a pleasure. Another person who really stood out was Suni at the steak restaurant. The bars also serve genuinely excellent cocktails. You can tell that real thought has gone into the recipes and flavour combinations rather than simply serving standard hotel cocktails. Omar at the Garden Pool was fantastic – after I told him what kind of flavours I was in the mood for, he always seemed to know exactly what drink to recommend. All in all, our stay at The Mora was an incredible experience and one we will remember very fondly. The combination of the beautiful hotel, great food and drinks, and above all the wonderful people made our stay truly special. A final thank you to Ashok and Purni for everything you did in your respective areas to make our holiday so memorable. And thank you to the entire team at The Mora for making the final days of our Zanzibar trip unforgettable. We would happily return!

I do NOT recommend staying here. On my second night after dinner, I became violently ill and vomited for 5 hours straight. I had to have the doctor come to my room because I was too weak to move. He confirmed I had travelers diarrhea, which is caused by unclean food handling. Many other commenters had the same experience, just take a look for yourself. Afterward, the hotel staff did not respond to my repeated messages for 6 days and insisted I needed a blood test, which wouldn’t even show what caused my illness. That would require a stool test. I don’t appreciate being told inaccurate medical advice from a hotel manager with no knowledge of healthcare, especially when I have a degree in biology focusing specifically on diseases and worked as a medical malpractice attorney. I have traveled all over the world (64 countries across 7 continents) and have never had anything like this happen before. Overall, an AWFUL experience for what is supposed to be a 5 star hotel and cost $800 per night. Beware.

Great hotel, beautiful beach. Immaculately clean and great selection of food. Buffet selections change daily and worth booking speciality restaurants. Jikan the Asian restaurant was really nice and the kids enjoyed. All of the staff are great but special shout out to Hadija at the beach bar and Alli at the beach club restaurant who were especially helpful.
