Hotel Materada Plava Laguna

Hotel is set in a beautiful location, with a promenade taking you into Porec, but is a good 30-45 minute walk. Taxi to centre can take 10 minutes and cost around 20 Euros. Surrounding area has lots of bays with dedicated swimming areas in the crystal clear waters, all well maintained and clean. Plenty of free changing areas. Rooms are kept well clean, but can be a little cramped and not totally soundproofed. Would recommend a kettle or alternative coffee/tea making facilities. Staff are very good, very polite and smartly presented - Emilije excellent. Swimming pool easily accessible with sun-loungers readily available, but interrupted by seagulls bathing! Found organised trips on website (desk never opened in reception area) and booked an excellent visit to Trieste, however, would recommend to book early as appear lots of the other trips are very seasonal and limited towards back end of season, (missed National Park island). Reception helped us with getting local buses to Pula. Would also recommend boat trip to Rovinj, Lim Fjord, and Vrsar. Some entertainment on in evenings, but was not to our taste. Unfortunately there were a couple of negatives: * On night of arrival, had some loud music playing somewhere below us past midnight, went to reception, and security investigated. Never occurred again. * Would appear hotel is used for large groups on cycling ventures. Mornings can problematic getting access through reception, external pick-up points, but worse off in food hall. This applies in the evening as well. Various food selection points are spread out, but you are constantly barged into, kicked in heels, or generally crowded out, when looking or selecting your food. Noise level awful and general demeanor, behaviour and patience of some ignorant guests very questionable! Witnessed so much food being wrapped or bagged and removed! Tray of cakes will disappear within a minute, plates overloaded. Did eat out few times as a result, would recommend Marconi's in centre of Porec, great food and drink at very good prices.

The Materada Plava Laguna, based on our experience, is a very nice hotel. We stayed for a week in late September on a Jet2 holiday from the UK. Except for one cloudy day, the weather was perfect, not too hot. When we were dropped off, we were the only British couple staying there from our flight, though there were a few other Brits in the hotel. In speaking with a gentleman from Vienna, he said that the Porec area was very popular with Austrians (who formed the majority of guests staying), as it was the closest part of the Mediterranean which they could either drive to or get to by coach. Check in was pretty quick, and we had a Classic room on the top floor facing North to the countryside. As mentioned in previous reviews, the Classic rooms are indeed small. However our room was very clean and modern, and the daily housekeeping service was very good, changing the towels regularly and also the bed linen midweek. I had considered an upgrade to a larger room, but the premium seemed a bit steep. Also as previously mentioned there is no fridge in the room. You can rent one from reception, though I'm not quite sure where you would put it in the small room. All of the public areas were kept extremely clean including around the pool area and dining room. Perhaps the carpets in the room corridors could do with replacement here and there, but this was a minor point in the scheme of things. The hotel is about 45 minutes pleasant walk around the coast to the old town of Porec, away from roads. There is a land train from behind the Marea Suites hotel about 15 minutes walk away, which you can take if you need to save your legs. One thing I noticed about this part of Croatia is that everything seemed very clean and tidy. The food at the hotel was fine. The dining room does indeed seem like a large canteen, but there is enough choice to keep you fed and watered. The salad bars were very good. Dinner also included complimentary beer and wine during our stay. The beer was OK, but the red or white wines were perhaps an acquired taste. Interestingly, we noticed that neither chips nor French Fries were ever available at dinner. The dining room was not open at lunchtime, so if you wanted a sandwich or other meal you would need to go out. There is a beach bar cum restaurant to the north which we didn't try, instead we walked towards Porec for about 6-8 minutes where there is a cafe called 'Fast Food Johnny'. Don't let the name put you off, this was an always lively and busy Cafe which served good coffee, beer and sandwiches / burgers etc. In summary we had a very pleasant stay in a nice part of Europe.

Just arrived. Had to wait 3 hours for check in after a huge coach party who arrived after us. Roon is very small and basic. Requested a nice room for a special retirement trip got room overlooking filthy roof with seagull poo all over it and view of the car park. Had to email my TUI booking confirmation before they would book us in.

Hotel Materada was good overall, but I probably wouldn’t come back. The staff was friendly, and the stay was pleasant, but there were some issues. The biggest problem was the weak water pressure in the toilet, which was inconvenient. With a few improvements, the hotel could provide a much better experience.

Just returned from the hotel - stayed there for 5-6th times. It is still best value for money hotel in class of 3 stars hotels in Plava Laguna Porec. Everything is excellent, location, parking, parks, pool, food, beach is near the hotel. It could be noisy and busy during and after the dinner, so if you are looking some more silent options chose rooms viewing the park, not the pool/sea, or chose some other hotel in Zelena Laguna which is much more quiet area in general. Staff is friendly, especially Almedin in lobby bar and Stefan on pool. Animation for kids is very good, all greetings for personal in Kids club. Only one big minus is very small room, but terrace and bathroom is very good. Overall, very good experience for the money we paid, and we will for sure return again next summer.
