Valamar Camping Lanterna

In the house (called Marine home for 3+2) we stayed in, we experienced the following problems: -The air conditioning was moldy. -There was mold on the floor. -The bed upholstery was torn. -There was a strong sewage or mold-like smell throughout the house. -There were ants inside the house.

I very much enjoyed my stay at this Camping site, however there was one waiter who served at the pizza restaurant near the reception and his name was Thomislav, he spoke perfect English and he was a pleasure to be around. I would highly rest recommend both this restaurant and hopefully you'll be lucky enough to have a waiter as good as him.

We stayed in the Punta Blu section of the site, which was tucked away in the back corner. The rooms were small but practical, with a small kitchen, bathroom and some storage for clothes. There was also a sofa bed, although putting it up would have made the room feel very cramped. The pool area was well maintained, and Jadranka, the lady looking after the pool area, was excellent and very helpful. The double beds at the pool had nets that had broken off from previous users, but this didn’t stop us enjoying the area. The happy hour by the pool, where prosecco and snacks were provided, was a great addition and very well received. Bikes were also provided free of charge by the pool, which was a nice touch, although unfortunately they were too big for my wife. One downside was that at night the pool attracted lots of seagulls, which made it less appealing. A pool cover would probably help with this. Breakfast was more than half a mile away from the accommodation, down a hill. For anyone with limited mobility, this could be a problem. However, it was worth the walk as the breakfast was plentiful and very nice. The beach was also over half a mile away, and taking the steps made the walk quite hard work. One big plus is that you get free sunbeds at the beach, although if the attendant isn’t there, the local reception staff don’t seem to know anything about this. The centre was just under a mile away, again involving a walk down a hill. With children, walking back after a few drinks became quite a chore. There were also lots of people travelling around on e-bikes and scooters, so you really had to keep your wits about you. Signage around the site was also quite poor, which meant we spent a fair amount of time wandering around aimlessly trying to find our way. There was also a land train available, but we were not provided with any information about it during our stay. An information pack in the accommodation or clearer details on the app would have been very helpful. Unfortunately, we found the reception staff rather unhelpful and they didn’t seem to know much about the local area. We asked them to arrange a taxi as we didn’t have a car, but were quoted €300 for a 32-mile round trip to Rovinj, which was obviously far too expensive for us. The restaurants were another disappointment, as we felt the food was overpriced for what it was. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend staying here without a car, particularly if you have young children or anyone with mobility issues. Be prepared for quite a lot of walking, including some steep hills. The accommodation and pool itself were pleasant, Jadranka was fantastic, the happy hour was a lovely touch, and the breakfast was very good, but the location and lack of helpful local information made the stay more hard work than we expected.

Massively underwhelmed by this site in virtually every way. We’re leaving early after a rubbish experience. Overcrowded, over priced and charging for everything they possibly can whilst offering poor customer service and rarely a smile to be seen from the staff. Takeaway services advertised as open until 7pm but closed early two days running. Poolside is slippery and a massive health hazard. Electric scooters everywhere travelling too fast - a serious accident waiting to happen. The beach was so overcrowded with people we literally couldn’t sit down. Avoid unless you want to overpay for crowded chaos.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Lanterna Camping, but I was disappointed with how a safety issue was handled. My son stepped through a loose plastic grate around the pool, causing his entire leg to go through. He suffered heavy bruising and cuts, and although we were fortunate it wasn't more serious, it could easily have been. Reception asked me to email photos of the broken grate and my son's injuries, which I did immediately, including my phone number. After receiving no response, I sent two follow-up emails over the next two days and spoke to three different staff members before anyone took action. When management finally came to our campsite on the third day, they said they had tried to visit us earlier but we weren't there. However, a simple phone call or email would have resolved that immediately. They apologized and offered us a voucher for the pizzeria and a 10% discount on our stay, which I appreciated. However, I was disappointed that it took three days, three emails, and conversations with multiple staff members before the issue was taken seriously.
