Avila Beach Hotel

Luz and Keyerlin were wonderful waitresses! We ate the barbecue buffet on Saturday night and it was delicious. We left very full. Would recommend!

Stunning area, extremely welcoming and nice personell. We have really enjoyed our time here. The reception have helped us with whatever we needed and Clyde has made sure our glasses were full at the beach

Room: La belle alliance standard Stay: August 16 to 25 Number of guests: 2 adults and 1 child Board basis: Half board CONS AND UNACCEPTABLE IN A 4 * HOTEL: -Lack of complimentary bottled water: There was no complimentary water in the room on arrival day. If we hadn't brought water given to us on the plane, we would have had to drink tap water—which, although safe, is not something we do even at home. Offering water at least on the first day is standard practice nowadays in almost any hotel, even 3-star ones, and this hotel should start doing so. -Constant noise: The room ventilation ran 24/7, combined with the continuous noise from an exterior hotel machinery unit right outside the room. Sleeping without earplugs was impossible, and even with them, it felt like sleeping inside an airplane listening to jet engines. Turning on the A/C raised the noise well above 35 dB, causing frequent night awakenings and ruining any chance of a proper rest. Since the noise level cannot be reduced, the ventilation should be turned off during night hours. -Bathroom odors: The bathroom smelled of urine and occasionally like a septic tank. When I complained, they increased the ventilation intensity. Unsurprisingly, no one could sleep that night, and I had to ask them to lower it again because even the "normal" sound was disruptive enough. - The A/C was dripping water from the ceiling to the floor -Poor housekeeping: Housekeeping was subpar, strictly limited to making the beds (poorly) and changing towels. Over 9 nights, the bed sheets were never changed, nor were they even shaken out, as we could feel small grains of sand in the bed. The balconie or the floor were never washed or clean . - Coffee amenities: The room had a coffee machine but no espresso cups. There were also no espresso cups at breakfast, and the coffee was terrible, coming from a vending-style machine. -At the breakfast the fruit juices ( orange and others) weren’t freshly squeeze but artificial like the ones you can buy at the supermarket in a carton . -Privacy and lighting: The room only had blackout/privacy curtains with no sheer options. This meant we couldn't let natural light in during the day without leaving the room fully exposed to other guests looking in from their balconies. As a result, we either had to stay in the dark with lights on during the day or keep the curtain open and lose all privacy. - The cocktails were low quality, likely because there was no real bartender, as the bar staff changed every day. AVILA BEACH HOTEL PROS : -The two private beaches with calm sea and good sunbeds and more than enough space. The marine life at the beaches was also excellent for snorkeling. - Breakfast was varied and good quality, except for the juices and coffee. - Dinners at both The Pen and Blues were satisfactory, with good quality food. -The location, being close to the city and local restaurants. -The option to rent a car directly from the Budget desk inside the hotel and drop it off at the same location, which is super convenient if you aren't renting a car for your entire stay. -Having an ice machine available for guests was also a plus.

I just stayed here for a wedding and was shocked that this is rated a 4.5 star resort. I’m well traveled and this resort no where meets my expectations for a resort with that kind of rating. Pros: proximity to restaurants and nightlife, food on site was good, pretty lobby Cons: the resort itself could use an upgrade- there is a ton of wear and tear in public areas that would not be present at a 4.5 star resort. The actual rooms are very sparse and terribly bare (felt like a jail cell). The beach is very small and the beach chairs are cheap. The service is extremely slow. Food and drinks are very expensive. I wish I would have booked elsewhere and will not be returning. The price does not remotely match the value.
