Papagayo Beach Resort

We loved out two bedroom villa. Our daughter had her own room and so did we. The one space living area is fantastic and spacious. A view of the water and the beach right across the street with just a row of wonderful restaurants!

Let start with something positive, the people are very nice! They do their best within the constraints that is a obvious cheap tourist trap. The villa was falling apart, it was dirty. No airco in the main living space. They were so cheap not even our Nespresso cups were replenished, they told me they only provide it for 1 day, spent 1800+ dollars for 4 days, can't even get complementary coffee cups, lmao. Also they clean some things when there is room service but the leave the sponge completely dirty... i dont even wanna know what the cleaned with it. I could go on how horrible it was... but just look at the photo's Also, the 'sea view' is just a joke.. maybe one or two villa's have a nice view across a busy road towards the sea... but the one we received.. i guess technically you could see the ocean in between some other houses... DO NOT GO HERE.

To start, I want to say that we loved Curacao! It was easy to navigate, perfect weather and lovely people. However, Papagayo Beach Resort fell short. I wanted to love it but it just didn’t impress. To start, we stayed in the biggest villa they had — 5 bdrm presidential. The 5th room was on the bottom floor and was unusable because it had a constant sewage smell. The washing machine was broken for 5 out 7 of the days we were there. We repeatedly told reception and finally on the 5th day, they suggested we go to the resort laundry room to do our laundry. They overcharged us for a pick up at the airport and when I caught it, they didn’t offer to refund me but told me I could have a credit to spend at the resort. The restaurant at the beach resort was permanently closed. The closets smelled so bad (every single one), you couldn’t put your clothes in them. They left only one dishwasher pod a day — we were staying with 4 kids and although repeatedly asked for extra, never was addressed. I’d send messages to reception on WhatsApp, they often didn’t respond for days. The kitchen was there but zero cooking supplies, not even basic salt and pepper. If you wanted to cook, you needed to purchase absolutely everything. They gave you one beach towel per person at check in and you needed to walk all the way to reception if you wanted fresh ones. Furthermore, upon check out, you needed to carry the towels back to reception, they wouldn’t collect them from the villa. The pool was great to have but was highly chlorinated and hard on the kids eyes. They took a $1500 deposit upon checkin that I was told would be returned at check out but then was told it could take up to 20 days. And lastly, the credit they left from overcharging me was completely forgotten and they attempted to charge me again on my ride back to the airport. I had to find the emails and resend them to prove myself. I feel like I have babbled through this entire review but as you can see, NOT impressive. And I gave many opportunities to correct all the issues and was continuously ignored. Unfortunately, I do not recommend this place.

The Highlights: The infinity pool is absolutely world-class—it was the highlight of the trip and perfect for the kids. We also loved the design of the villa; the wrap-around deck and the indoor-outdoor living concept really let us soak in the Caribbean breeze and made the space feel huge. Villa was cleaned and towels replaced daily, so no issues there. ​The Downside: Unfortunately, the experience was dampened by a serious presence of tiny ants, specifically in the kitchen and bathroom. It made it impossible to leave anything on the counters. Bring sealable bags. ​Final Thought: A beautiful resort with a great layout.

Location was good. Atmosphere good. Villa was basic, clean. More functional space would be nice. There was no functional table in the extremely large living room. This would have been nice to eat, play cards etc. Hooks in bathroom to hang towels did not work. Towels kept falling. Shelf in shower to place toiletries needed. Coffee and tea was not replenished for duration of stay, which I thought was unusual given the price of the stay. Value: villa was overpriced. Must have a car to explore all the beaches on the island. Area was quiet and no noise concerns. Reception staff was exceptional. They were always willing to help. We loved Leochnella and Rayno. They always went the extra mile to help. Beach and beach infinite pool was paid public access so much busier than anticipated. Beach was not ever tidied. Garbage on the sand, chairs don't get wiped. Overall, the amenities were a bit disappointing given the cost of the villa stay.
